The main argument made by Ingersoll and May is that the reason for the perceived teacher shortage is not about the colleges and universities not being able to recruit minority students or minority students not being able to pass the assessments to get accepted into the education programs, but that once minorities are in the classroom they leave because of the poor working conditions. The point of this article was to highlight why minority teachers leave the teaching profession after three years or less. This article was a bit more refreshing in that it looked at minority educators in the classroom and what schools are doing or not doing to attract and/or retain them.
