In the essay "The Science of Heartbreak and How Music Heals", Christie Wilcox explains the science behind being emotionally hurt and how it turns into physical pain. It also explains how music and writing help heal that pain. Wilcox says that the rush of dopamine she gets from music and writing helps relieve the pain she has. Music and writing has the same effect on me as while.
Music plays a big role in my life. I listen to it everyday. Music helps me process what emotions I am feeling that day. Emotions such as anger, happiness, depression and anxiety. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music” (Music Quotes). Whether we realize it or not, music affects our lives greatly. The only thing for us to question is how. How does music impact your life and the lives of others? What does music do for us? People of all ages benefit emotionally, physically, and academically from music.
Music, it helps the world go ‘round. Whatever kind of music you like, how often you listen to it, it's all up to you. Most likely, you will enjoy many different genres. Often times, it helps you express yourself beyond speech. And like the French poet Victor Hugo said, “ music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that cannot remain silent.”
At the beginning, music has and always will be an important thing in my life. When I am on a road trip or am doing something that takes an extended period of time, I know I can turn on Spotify and drift into my own world. Also, if I ever feel perturbed or dejected, I can listen to my favorite album and feel great again. Third, music helps me prepare for activities such as football games or school. Lastly, music assists me whenever I’m working on something such as homework or a project for school.
One of the largest parts of my life for the past few years has been music. I has been like a home and it definitely provides a connection for me. Many of my favorite songs are relatable to me in some way. They may describe an aspect of my life, or even a specific way that I feel. Having this thing that I can relate to and actually understand is such an amazing thing.
Music is a big part of my life as it is for most people. It is a way for people to relate to something if they are struggling or are just having a tough day. Music also can be a way of people to relieve stress; almost to calm themselves. The types of music that people listen to can very daily. I know that for myself I listen to mostly rap music but some days I can listen to alternative music mainly Green Day for hours.
Music can play a big role in our lives. It can be remembrance of a special times and times in hardships. Music can be a language without words because it’s so powerful and you can see their feelings or emotions in that one song. That can be one way of how we can have connection with another person. Therapeutic use of music is also extremely effective at reducing the everyday aches and pains that humans experience. Slow and methodical music slows the brain waves and helps the muscles in our body to relax, reducing muscle pain (Coleman). A significant amount of today’s population also experiences depression in some shape way or form and music therapy has been proven to be one of the most successful ways to help patients cope with depression. “Individual music therapy combined with standard care is extremely effective for lowering [depression] among working age people,” says Professor Christian Gold at the University of British Columbia (Paddock). “Music therapy is so effective because it allows patients to express their feelings in a safe way,” mentions Elizabeth Fawcett (MT-BC) (Peach). Hospital patients experienced consistently shorter and more pleasant stays when undergoing music therapy along with traditional treatment (Meyer).
This is a huge component for me. Music allows me to express myself. When I want to get pumped up and have lots of energy during my workout I’ll turn on rock and roll music real loud to get that extra burst of energy. I like to listen to music when I am down on myself. When I want to forget about all the stress in life and just have a great time I turn to music. Music can put me in a way better mood after a terrible day or a long day at school or work. People like music to remind them of events , especially the happiest times in life.
