In the rap world it's nearly impossible to avoid the topic of sex. Lyrics like, "I'll take you to the candy shop, let you lick the lollipop" (50 Cent) are not even close to being about going to a candy shop or enjoying a lollipop. These lyrics by 50 Cent are a clear representation of the themes in many hip-hop songs. "The Year Hip-Hop Invented Sex" written by Megan Carpentier in 2010, talks about the transformation of hip-hop music from the “Dark (Orgasm Free) Ages”(Carpentier 226) to what this genre of music is today. Carpentier explains that, “Men have often been more interested strictly in getting women into bed are finally interested in what their partners have to say about it once they've been there” (Carpentier 226). The author of this article writes to prove that popular music has progressed over time, straying away from the idea of objectifying women and moving towards seeing who could satisfy women.
