Rainsford’s Recovery He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided. He got up and went to the bathroom. When he came out of the bathroom he realized how rested and relaxed he felt. Rainsford decided to take a shower, so he goes the Zaroff’s closet and grab some clothes. While Rainsford is in the shower a he realizes he has to find a way off the island to get back home. The clothes Rainsford picked out were neat and elegant. Rainsford noticed this and it disgusted him how much it reminded him of Zaroff, who was currently lying dead beside the bed. Rainsford decided he might as well get some food from the kitchen, after all he wasn’t going to do anything on an empty stomach. When he got into the kitchen he made an egg and …show more content…
When he got down there he found a key rack with a single key on it. He grabbed the key and looked at it. It was clearly a boat key. “THIS IS MY CHANCE,” shouted Rainsford. He ran outside and looked around for 30 minutes or so. Then he found it. A nice red speedboat. Rainsford ran onto the boat and cranked the engine. It roared to life with great power Rainsford could hardly control his inner excitement. This excitement reminded him of when he first started hunting big game, back when he killed a lion in Africa. He shook away the memory this is no time for that, Rainsford thought. He sped off in the direction of where he landed only a few days prior. He drove past the landing site with intense hatred and anger. How could a spot of land cause such anger, Rainsford thought. He shook away the thought and a new one replaced it, this was it! He was escaping the island that almost killed him multiple times! Rainsford arrived on land a few hours later to find Whitney standing near the shore talking to a man, but he looked different somehow. Rainsford ran to him shouting,” Whitney! Whitney! I’ve returned” Whitney turned around and Rainsford realized why he looked different. Whitney had aged 30 years! When
He shrugged his shoulders.” (Connell 27) General Zaroff had went back home to have some dinner. He then went into the library to calm down. As he was about to turn the lights on in his room but went to the window to look at the dogs. As he turned on the lights Rainsford came from behind the bed curtains and scared Zaroff half to death.

Rainsford had to have skills if he wanted to survive the manhunt. The three skills he had were, how to make a Malay Mancatcher, his hunting skills and a trick he learned when he was in Uganda.
Rainsford got a thrill from winning the game and will began to hunt again. Rainsford’s comfort in Zaroff’s bed shows his excitement on winning. Rainford that “he had never slept in a better bed.” (36) After he thought that his trap had succeed he almost gave his cover after jumping to celebrate his win.
Boom! Startled, I quickly put my sharpened knife on my counter. With a smirk appearing, I realized we had company; therefore, I worked my way down our marble steps to the entrance of my chateau. Slowly but surely I walked down to see the door open with two men standing, only one I knew immediately. As I glared to find the face of the man who dared walk into my island, I suddenly recognized the face - Sanger Rainsford. Aha! In that moment, I knew he would be my best match on this island.
When Rainsfords finds out that General Zaroff likes to hunt humans, he feels very shocked. Rainsfords what's to get off the island before he gets killed
The man asks Rainsford why he is out in this island all Rainsford says is he’s out hunting and heard the crash. Rainsford tells Jack about the mansion and as soon as they arrive there he’ll fix him up and take care of him. Jack has no idea what is wrong with Rainsford but something is not right about him. Two hours later they arrive at the mansion.
The short story “The Most Dangerous Game” written by Richard Connell, takes place on an island known to have a curious dread to many others. A big game hunter named Rainsford sits around on a yacht talking with one of his other fellow hunters named Whitney who describes how the hunt may only be best for the hunter in lines of feelings but, Rainsford has a different opinion on that matter. When Rainsford is left on the island, he goes through a series of events that leads to a peril of danger. Rainsford states “he had never slept in a better bed”(Connell 15 par. 2) after experiencing a journey that could’ve put his life in jeopardy. This gives the reader a sense Rainsford is projected as a dynamic character from his progression in thoughts
Being lost in an island, hungry, and tired is not an everyday thing. So Rainsford being in that situation, had no other choice than except Zaroff’s generosity. Zaroff gave Rainsford clothes, food and, a place to sleep. Zaroff tells Rainsford to join him for dinner, and Rainsford went to the dinner room as told. Sitting down eating there meal. The two men’s starts a conversation and starts to talk about their lives. Zaroff learns a lot of things about Rainsford and so does Rainsford. Rainsford learns that Zaroff is a smart man and a hunter just like him, but Zaroff him hunting people is part of things that he hunts for. Zaroff on another hand learns that Rainsford is a pretty smart, educated man and lastly a hunter.4
Rainsford had arrived on the shore of Ship-Trap Island after falling off a yacht. According to the narrator, “Bleak darkness was blacking out the sea and jungle when Rainsford sighted the lights” (Connell 45). The island Rainsford arrived on was filled with darkness, with light only coming from Zaroff’s château. The use of setting signifies the importance of where the story is taking place. In the beginning of the story, the island was described as dark, giving a feeling of indistinction. This setting first overwhelmed Rainsford, for he did not know what to do. The setting of the jungle is described as a location of being constrictive because it did not allow Rainsford to return back home. Rainsford used his instinct to navigate though the unknowns of Ship-Trap Island. Zaroff had the confidence of navigating the island’s challenges, so he distrusted his instinct. While setting helped reveal the message of the story, characterization also supported the author’s argument.
What is probably going on inside Rainsford head is he is probably thinking as to how he got in this type of situation, for him being stuck on an island that he doesn’t even know about, except for its name. He’s probably of ways to escape the island by using one of Zaroff’s resources such as a boat. His reactions to his first day on Ship-Trap Island was very exhausting and tiresome because of when he accidently fell off the ship and had to swim to the island through those rough waters. As he laid there, his reaction was to find was to find out where that gunshot happened, because where there is a gunshot, theirs people also.
After falling off the ship, Rainsford swam in the direction of where he heard three gunshots come from. The first thing he notices as he reaches the rocks was the large animal that had went in the underbrush and the blood stained on a patch of weeds. Rainsford then finds a cartridge and realizes that the animal had been shot with a twenty-two. He went on his way looking for something to show him the way to where the “men” he suspected to be on the island were. Just as he was hoping, he found prints of hunting boots. These small details showing how alert, intelligent, and descriptive he is says a lot about the character
Rainsford woke up to the booming sinfony of dozens of hungry hunting hounds and a satisfied look soon materialized on his face. With a prolonged yawn, he rose sleepily from the luxurious bed to find the body of General Zaroff staring blankly at the ceiling. He was the hunter, his hunter, that he had just murdered. Rainsford realised he had finally and truly won the most dangerous game. He remembered what the Cossack had said before their fight, “One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed.” Rainsford silently walked over to the window and gazed down towards the dogs below. As if know what Rainsford was thinking, the hounds barked viciously at him, salivating at their mouths. He ceremoniously picked up the still body of General Zaroff and threw him out the window with a crash! He put a fresh pair of clothes on while listening to the now satisfied canines eat their meal. determined he needed to get
The story “The Most Dangerous Game” begins by introducing two characters; Whitney and Rainsford. We automatically find out that they are on a yacht talking of an island named “Ship-Trap Island”, a place that sailors dread and avoid. The two men, Whitney and Rainsford falls off the yacht after the sound of gun shots steal his attention. Rainsford swims toward the gunshots then hears the screeching sound of an animal. Finally, Rainsford reaches the rocky shore and falls asleep. When Rainsford awakens he sets out to find food but ends up finding an empty rifle cartridge and human footprints. Rainsford follows the footprints and runs into hunters Ivan and General Zaroff.
It had been a week since Rainsford managed to kill the nefarious General Zaroff. The challenging part was almost over or so it seemed. There was not a clear way for Rainsford to escape. As days passed, Rainsford tried to escape. He tried making a boat from driftwood that he found, he tried swimming, he even tried sending a signal by using a flashlight. Rainsford had become so desperate that he even tried some ridiculous plans like trying to pole vault across the ocean. As a result, Rainsford ended up having huge gashes in his left leg ,which got infected, and he had to amputate it. As days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, Rainsford had lost hope and became bitter.
He could hear breathing in the shrubbery at his back. Taking a large branch from the forest floor, he proceeded towards Whitney. In a flash of movement Rainsford had knocked the gun from the boy’s hand and raised his club for the fatal stroke.
