Summer Survival Guide
There are many things you need to watch out for during the Summer. At the beach, rip currents are dangerous because they pull you far away from the shore and keep you there. There is also a lot of bacteria in the water that can be deadly. "The best place to swim is in a chlorinated pool," says Dennis Maki. Shark attacks are fatal but very rare. There is only a 1 in 11.5 million chance of being attacked by a shark. There are many ways to prevent being attacked by a shark such as not swimming while bleeding.
Heatstroke is a very deadly
While lifeguards are not present at this beach, a warning flag program alerts swimmers to dangerous or restricted areas. With a bit of attention, surfers, snorkelers and swimmers enjoy the sun and water safely. The Cove provides protected swimming with no waves, which is perfect for young families. And, the other side of the Inlet boasts ocean waves for splashing over eager swimmers.
Sharp teeth, an ominous fin and the sound of Jaws ring in your ears. For some, this sounds like a nightmare. For the adventuresome spirit, an up close interaction with a shark is a dream come true. With North Shore Shark Adventures, you can live out your dream of swimming with the sharks without any danger. Shark cages and snorkels are used so that you can get as close to the shark as possible in complete safety.
In addition, to being a very healthy sport and having an amazing coach, College of the Canyon swim team is marvelous because the swim team is co-ed. The benefits of being part of a co-ed sport are the opportunity to build respect for one another. Many of the swimmers on College of the Canyons come from swimming backgrounds many swam in club teams, others did high school, and some did water polo but, all the swimmers prove they are strong and fast enough to be on the team and because of that, they gained respect from the other swimmers. Unlike, same-sex sports many of the players usually become jealous of one another which can result in arguments, fights and poor performance during their sporting event. Another, advantage of being part of
In December of 2002, Lynne Cox completed an unthinkable challenge. The challenge itself was only 1.06 miles and lasted twenty-five minutes, which doesn’t seem like a long time but for her it lasted a decade. Cox wrote an autobiography about her journey titled Swimming to Antarctica. Within Cox’s book she relives the phenomenon at which she faced the frigid unknown. That one day Cox would put everything she had into a dream only she could possibly achieve due to her physical and mental stability.
78 percent people feel safe from shark attacks and enter the water at their own risk. You are entering the home of a 20 feet long animal that has razor sharp teeth. We use the ocean as a luxury, we can enjoy however we need to be mindful that your entering in the sharks home. These beachside towns wont be affected because 78 percent of people don’t mind entering the water with these large sharks.
Local authorities, coast guard, harbormasters, and marine researchers keep a close eye on the water. Typically most sharks will be close to where you find seals. Though sharks are very opportunistic predators. They will not turn down a free meal. One particular incident was in August of this year, when three local beaches had to be closed due to sharks in the area. Up to six white sharks were observed feeding on a dead whale in the area. This increased abundance of the animals in one place make closing the beach an easy decision. Though attacks on humans are rare, there was an incident in 2012 when a Truro man was bitten on the leg. He
Shark attacks are rare, and most are not even fatal. In fact, there are only 70 to 100 shark attacks on average around the world. You are more likely to die from fireworks, drowning, a car accident, or a heart attack than you are a shark bite. Better medical care and faster response times means that if you are bit by a shark there is a high chance that you will survive. Most sharks take one bite as a test, to find out if you are edible or not. If you are not, the shark simply swims away to find a tasty seal or fish to eat instead. (FLMNH Ichthyology Department, 2005).
However, it is evident that sharks are very innocent and should not be harmed. In the infographic, it states, “Every year an estimated 73 million sharks are killed by humans, mainly through fishing.” This articulates that humans are the danger to sharks. Millions of sharks are harmed by humans, however barely any humans are harmed by sharks. Even if a shark bites a human, it is an accident, therefore, the shark does not come back for a second bite.
People still swim in the ocean so it is good to know tips for swimming safely. The most important tip is to always swim with a buddy, never swim alone. Also things that may attract sharks are blood, swimming in a zig-zag pattern, hunched backs, shiny jewelry, bright colors or diving down deep. Also don’t consume alcohol while swimming or you could drown, same with swallowing water. If sharks happen to swim close to you don’t make any sudden movements, and try to get with a crowd.
The lure of the sandy beaches appeals to people worldwide. Television shows, movies and the draw of the beach lifestyle have a universal attraction that one can’t help but want to visit. The sun, surf, barbeques, nothing could ruin a day like that; nothing but a fin in the water. Most beach goers have not experienced seeing a shark fin in the water, let alone a shark attack. Sharks may be in the close proximity where humans are but they don’t actively go hunting for humans. Media has fed into mass hysteria and fear of sharks, leading to the mass killing and endangering of a vital creature to the marine ecosystem.
Sharks are well known for their role in the movie Jaws, but real life sharks are anything but a human killing machine. According to the authors Steve and Jane Parker from “The Encyclopedia of Sharks”, various kinds of sharks have been around for many years, even going way back from 600 million years according to fossil records (page 14) . Yes, it’s true that swimming near a shark might not sound appealing in any way as it sounds dangerous right? It turns out that we humans are more of a threat to sharks than they are to us, as they only cost 30 percent BUT with only 4 percent of the attacks will result in death according to the data produced by The Australian Shark Attack File (ASAF). Even though people view sharks as a threat, the recent
Stop, right now, think of the last time you went swimming, think of how many times you've gone swimming, how high is that number? It's engraved into our lives, not only is it a fun way to relax, but swimming is a survival skill needed for many species to use in their lives. Swimming is part of nature, almost every living species has a natural instinct of how to swim right from birth, but humans don't, why do you think that is? Over the years, swimming from a competition stand-point has advanced and changed along with technology. My goal is to learn about: the regulations of competition swimming (rules and strokes), the technological advances that are pushing athletes to go beyond old records, and what is happening with swimming in your neighborhood.
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning is the fifth leading cause of unintentional injury death in the United States. Also, about ten people every day die from drowning (“Unintentional…”, par. 1). Drowning is a serious concern and anxiety for many people. And, it comes to no surprise that drowning is the leading cause of injury-related death in the summer (Leigh, 1). People might be familiar with what happens to the lungs while drowning, however, some don not know there is a difference between what happens to the body when one drown in freshwater versus saltwater.
Sharks are vicious creatures and eat humans. Don’t go into the water if you see a shark nearby or they will come after you. These are a few of the many things you will hear from the television or even people you may know. Humans are not a part of the shark diet so it is highly unlikely that a shark would randomly go after a human. The media likes to make their shark stories more exciting by adding words like “aggressive” or “threatened.” There was a total of 4 deaths caused by sharks in 2014 which is a large contrast to the 11,417 sharks that are killed per hour by humans. sharks) need to be preserved and protected in order to preserve our oceans. Laws that are more strict should be implemented in order to achieve this goal.
Support 1: Over Swimming- Excessive practice of swimming can cause damage to your joints such as tendinitis in the knees. It can also darken your skin because it requires minimum coverage of the body and since the body is always surrounded by water therefore you also don’t feel the sunburn. It can also cause infection of the ear and from viruses in case of using public pools. To avoid effect. Buy ear plugs to eliminate risk of ear infection as it is easy while swimming long periods of time to get infections. And for the case of sunburn you can use community pools to swim.
