I would recommend, “The Pact: Three young men make a promise and fulfill a dream” to eleventh grade students for several reasons. First factor, throughout this whole novel it gives you a wakeup call. For example, life in college is not that easy as you think, they got in to a lot of trouble, and throughout all that they were given a second chance in life. Second factor, Depicts transition from high school to college. They knew college is different from high school because of their own experience. They struggled throughout college, they financially couldn’t pay their books and other stuff they need to fro their classes. Then, this novel teaches you life lessons. Throughout this novel you will see how hard they had it and they still chased
The first reason is that the ninth-graders can relate to the mistakes that the main characters make in the story. The second reason is that the novel has a lot of inspirational quotes that the ninth-graders can learn from. A quote that I learnt from is this novel is, “Nothing could seem more natural to us than the rebellion of teenagers.” This quote tells me that our stages in life are natural. Finally, the last reason is how great of a writer William Shakespeare is. I learnt a lot from his writing and I hope that the ninth-graders will have the chance to read this
I found the novel, Peak, by Roland Smith to be particularily interesting and have chosen that as my final project lesson plan story to focus on. This was a story I was fortunate enough to read as a child, and it has always stuck in my mind as a compelling and interesting story, which held true through reading it once again for this course. This novel appeals to both male and females, and although it is an action/adventure females and males both are able to find a way to become engaged while reading, which is especially important when creating an interesting lesson plan.
Fledgling is the story of an apparently young, amnesiac girl, whose alarming unhuman needs and abilities lead her to a startling conclusion. She is in fact a genetically modified, 53 year old vampire. Forced to discover what she can about her stolen former life, at the same time learn who wanted and still wants to destroy her and those she cares for. This is a very interesting parable that tests the limits of otherness and questions what it means to be truly human.
Sampson, George, and Rameck were three kids from the ghetto of Newark, New Jersey. They came from low-income families, and grew up without father figures. All three of them always did well in school, but others around them made a lot of bad choices. This caused many events that them caused them to go to jail. When they met each other in University High School, the three doctors decided to promise to each other that they would all go to college and become doctors. After they made the pact, there were a few problems, but these incidents never stopped them from pursuing their dream of becoming doctors. Today, Dr. Hunt is a Board certified internist at University Medical Center at Princeton
There is not much that separates our kind from lower species of life. Our intellect, communication skills and opposable thumbs are a few of the many advantages to being a human. Human’s ability to construct a deep and rewarding lifelong friendship is no less incredible than any of the previously mentioned traits. These friendships are an integral part of our lives each and everyday, and friendships that last can certainly help lead to ones success later on in life. I have had many very close friends in my life and they all have helped me in their own way. Their strengths and abilities have immensely helped me in areas that might otherwise be weaknesses. In The Pact, three youths relied on each other’s guidance and strengths
I found it difficult to relate with the book, The Pact, for near the first half of the story. The three boys, Rameck, Sam, and George all grew up in impoverished neighborhoods in New Jersey. They were surrounded by drugs, violence, theft, prejudice, and death. None of the 3 had a father figure within their home while growing up and discovered that it was extremely difficult to find any positive role models within their area. As kids, Sam and Rameck both caved under the peer pressure and became entangled in immoral activity. Rameck had even let adrenaline take over during a fight and stabbed a man in the thigh with a switchblade. As a result he spent 4 days in jail, some time on house arrest, and faced attempted
The novel The Pact which was read over the summer by Penn State students was considered interesting to some and dull to others. I personally enjoyed the book since I could relate to the book in more ways than one. The story takes pace in an inner city setting with three young men who become doctors and plan to give back to the community in any way they possibly can. The three young men are known as Sam, George and Rameck. Each of these characters posses a different personality which contributes to the book as a whole.
All three of the boys in The Pact had the luxury of attending University High, which was a six-year public high school for those who were gifted academically. These three boys faced a deficit when attending here since their middle schools lacked the rigor these boys needed. Additionally, to attending University High, prior knowledge can also come from those who are your first teachers, for example, older siblings and parents. All three of these boys faced complicated family dynamics, but Rameck’s mother, in particular, Arlene Hunt became pregnant at seventeen which resulted in a downward spiral of her life. With that, his grandmother Ellen Bradley was able to take care of him. This experience for many learners would have resulted in following the example his mother set, but Arlene Hunt and Ellen Bradley were focused on the success of her son and grandson respectively and pushed him to do
The “Corrupt Bargain” of 1824 – Henry Clay, speaker of the house opposed Andrew Jackson and supported John Quincy Adams. When it was time to vote, John Quincy Adams got the majority even though Jackson had the popular vote. Jackson believed Adams and Clay struck a deal that Adams would win in return for Clay becoming Secretary of State.
When Andrew Jackson was denied presidency in 1824 due to “the corrupt bargain” between John Quincy Adams and Henry Clay, he was furious at the lack of democracy in the election system. He became determined to institute a new age of genuine democracy in America where the voice of the people wouldim being monarchal, Andrew Jackson was a very democratic president evidenced by his drive to give the people more representation and also his attempted transfer of power from the few to the many.
The book The Pact written by Drs. Sampson Davis, George Jenkins, and Rameck Hunt deals with three friends who together make a pact to attain their goals for the future. Internal factors like commitment, money, and work ethic play part in the American Dream. However, we notice in the book The Pact, external factors like peer pressure play an immense part as well. Having each other during their journey, peer pressuring each other in a positive way was one of their keys to success.
In summary I think this book would be a great book to go on the Carey booklist because it has such unusual but effective style of writing which many Year 9’s would benefit from the exposure to. It also gives today’s

In conclusion, after I read this book I realized about harmony with methodology of many other transformational techniques in human. Ruiz breaks down the four agreements into simple language with spirit. He emphasizes that just doing your best in everything will help you to keep the other three agreements include being impeccable with your word, don’t take anything personal, don’t make assumption. I hope I can follow the four agreements and persistently practice for living a powerful and happy life. In addition, I will encourage the others to do the same.
During this semester, I have done various work such as reading and writing. This work includes reading articles from the book and writing essays. Some of the work I did was a challenge at the beginning, but I was able to persist and overcome those barriers. During the time I been in this class, I have learned many important strategies that have helped me improve in various ways. One major method that has improved my academic skills and quality in education have been the use of the Habits of Mind. During this semester I have had many struggles, but having a positive attitude towards the strategies and Habits of Mind has improved my academic intelligence. The knowledge I have learned these past days, have been extremely important that I am planning to use them in the future in order to succeed and accomplish my goals.
