The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is a governmental organization that is dedicated to helping those affected by things such as mental illness, substance abuse, helping veterans etc. In addition they also offer resources that can help people on the journey of recovery. Other resources are listed to helping mental health professionals, and families find the right treatment, both for clients, and their families. The National Institute of Mental Health is another organization federally funded, that focuses on topics related to mental health. According to their strategic objectives, they want to find out the reason behind behaviors, then move
The second scenario, during these 6 week of reading at the end of every story, page, and chapter a person with substance abuse felt alone, confuse, and lost, until they decided to reach out for help or depend on something other than themselves. While making the comparison a lot of individual experience loneliness, temptation, loss their way or direction, hunted by fear and emotional turmoil daily even without having a substance abuse or in the wild. In this sense counselors uses techniques, guidance, spirituality to prepare the individuals to find their own way since every one practice may be different than others an there are non-believers. Therefore, coping respectfully in my eye’s is preparing them for the up and down they may encounter
There are many assessment processes that are used to identify substance abuse as well as many other disorders that are addictive. These processes include the SBIRT, AUDIT (Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test), NIDAMED, CAGE AID (which is used frequently within the counseling foundation), AUDIT-C, and also the DAST-10 which is an assessment process used to evaluate drug abuse within the patients. These are many different processes that are currently used to identify these addictions in clients. The activity of identifying these processes can be over a period of time or can be evaluated in that same day or after the evaluation is completed.
Please review the case notes for this patient. This is a DCF case and her teenage kids has been removed for the second time. She is recommended for mental and substance abuse treatment from DCF. Deborah works for SalusCare in the prevention department and she has a lot of information about this case that she will put in the SalusCare medical record file. The information that Deborah has access to is from the DCF data base.
The rate of substance abuse in New Hampshire is astoundingly high. In a survey conducted between 2009 and 2010 by the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 12.15% of New Hampshire residents reported past-month use of illegal drugs. The national average during this time period was 8.82%, significantly lower than New Hampshire’s average. Likewise, the most common drugs of abuse during this time included other opiates, heroin and marijuana. More recently, data on drug rehab enrollments in New Hampshire during 2013 show heroin as the leading substance of abuse. As well, drug and alcohol rehab programs enrolled 1,520 individuals (36.7% of all treatment admissions) for heroin addiction treatment in 2013. The average
The competency “apply the core functions of assessment, policy development, and assurance in the analysis of public health problems and their solutions” was met through reading chapter 5 in Public Health: What it is and How it Works, along with completing a discussion question on applying the essential public health services to gun violence in Chicago and by completing a group project where I had to describe substance abuse in terms of the ten essential public health services.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration also referred to SAMHSA can provide a variety of resources. One resource is the Behavioral Health Disaster Response Mobile App. The App offers a range of services as it allows first responders immediate access to field resources in aiding disaster survivors. The App also has the capability to search for and map behavioral health service providers in the impacted area, review emergency preparedness materials, and send resources to colleagues. This can be a very effective tool in saving lives. Another resource is the 24/7 Disaster Distress Helpline hotline which offers immediate crisis counseling for people that experience distress after a natural or human disaster. The Helpline sends
Individuals plagued with alcohol and other substance-abuse problems face numerous barriers along the way to their recovery (Cunningham, Sobell, Sobell, Agrawal & Toneatte, 1993). At the micro-level, some of the primary barriers relate to the potential threat to their employment and income as a result of acknowledging their problems. They include the financial risks associated with disclosure of the problem to employers. At the macro-level, there are relatively few high-quality opportunities for community-funded programs, particularly for middle and upper-middle-class working individuals. Those barriers include the relative unavailability of publicly-funded programs that are well-regulated and staffed by professionals with licenses in substance abuse fields. At the psychosocial level, there are significant barriers in the form of societal behavioral norms that pose barriers of different types based substantially on gender (Beckman & Amaro, 1986). They include general societal behavioral norms that promote alcoholism and substance abuse and particular psychosocial interpersonal dynamics at work and in the home that present different types of barriers to effective treatment based largely on gender (Beckman & Amaro, 1986; Jessup, Humphreys, Brindis & Lee, 2003).
Addiction is has been around for a long time. The fear of people becoming addicted to certain substances has lead to policies changes. However, there has not been a major federal law passed that dealt with addiction in over forty years. In 2016, President Obama signed a law that covered all the major points of addiction and recovery. This topic this important to me because some of my loved ones are addicts. I may also have clients that are addicts. This paper will take a look at that law. First, we have to define a few key terms.
The program that will be discussed is call the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment but I will refer to it as RSAT for short. RSAT is a program that last at least six months but no more than twelve months if needed. The treatment program will be provided in treatment facilities set apart-in a completely separate facility or even better yet a dedicated housing unit in a facility exclusively used only by RSAT participants, keeping them separated from the general correctional population. RSAT will be focus on the substance abuse problems of the individual inmate. The program will help develop the inmate's, behavioral, cognitive, vocational, social skills, and other techniques used to help solve the substance abuse problems. Within the program they will begin or continue require proven reliable forms of drug and alcohol testing, including urinalysis for program participants and former participants while they remain in the custody of the state or local government. To decrease the chance of recidivism due to drug use or related crimes, RSAT should be limited to inmates with 6 to 12 months remaining in their time behind bars, this way they can just be
According to the SAMHSA (2010) report on the national survey on drug use and health almost 22.5 million people are reported to be associated with substance abuse disorder (SAMHSA, 2010). This illness was found to be very common in all age groups, both sex, and seniors. There are several effects on these individuals and their families. Many people who suffer from substance abuse disorders fail to acknowledge these serious consequences. First of all, no response of pain relief can be seen with smaller doses of pain medications, as their bodies are used to high levels of various substances at the same time. Nurses become frustrated when they try to treat and help these patients with pain. Sometimes it is difficult to think about ethical principles when nurses have to deal with such patients with pain and suffering.
NIMH has a great prevention service for the public. On the NIMH website, it provides detailed information related to mental illness. For example, it has information related to depression. Depression is a mood disorder. The life prevalence is around 13-16 percentage in the United State. NIMH is very useful because when I searched the term depression or other mental disorder. NIMH is the first website listed. People who do not study psychology can receive accurate information from NIMH. The information provides by NIMH is very accessible and easy to understand. It explains the symptoms, cause and treatment to the public. Those information are very good, it just like what I learned in my psychology class. Also, NIMH creates brochure for different

The result of the healthcare related questionnaire shows that, substance abuse which was of greatest concern in the County, followed by chronic disease such as cancer, lungs, heart, diabetes, and high blood pressure, next was the lack of access to health care, followed by teenage pregnancy; and finally homelessness. Social workers who work in the area of substance abuse concentrates on specific clients that have an addiction problem and those who are abusing different drug substances. Social workers who are working and dealing with cases of substance abuse can help clients on their journey to rehabilitation by being supportive, offering encouragement, and making the path to restoration a slightly easier. Social workers in this field use their knowledge and abilities to comprehend the needs of the client in relation to their substance abuse problems. The social worker measures the client to understand the severity of the substance abuse in order to know how to deal with the client. Social workers experienced in substance misuse and addiction often work as part of a team with other specialists, particularly licensed alcohol and drug therapists, doctors, and nurses.
There are many factors that impact vulnerability including social conditions, such as education, environmental factors, nutrition, stress and prejudice along with a family’s poverty level. Vulnerability will be discussed as it relates to adolescent substance abuse. Adolescence is considered a vulnerable time in life for many reasons and it’s the most vulnerable time in life for an individual to develop a substance abuse disorder (SUD). This disorder will be explored through the utilization of the Bioecological Family Systems Theory and will be discussed through each system level (microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem).
