The 2012 London Olympics were held at the Olympic Park in East London from Friday, July 27, 2012 to Sunday, August 12, 2012. The Olympics have been held in London two times before the 2012 Olympics, once in 1908 and once in 1948 (Scott). Over 10,500 athletes participated from over 204 countries, over 120,000 people were going to the Olympic Park every day to watch the Olympics. Over 302 medal events were being held, with three swimmers being the top medalists in the 2012 London Olympics (“Olympics”). There were a lot of people at the London Olympics, but the questions is, was the security prepared for the amount of people showing up to the 2012 London Olympics. The Olympics were not prepared with what was expected from the security; 10,000
With over two hundred countries participating, the Olympic Games is easily considered as one of the largest multisport event known to history. The Olympics are held at a different country, and even more rarely at the same city. For a country to be chosen to host the Olympics, the country’s National Olympic Committee (the country’s representatives for the Olympics) nominates a city (from the country they represent) that they think has potential in hosting the Olympics nine years prior to when they wish to host the Olympics. It is a two year process that consists of: Application Phase, Candidate Phase and the Election of the Host City. The country that wins the election is given seven years to prepare for the Olympics. The Olympic Games are recognized globally by billions of people. The Olympics are a set of games that occur every 4 years in the winter and the summer. These games bring countries from all around the world together for friendly competition.
Some 3,000 athletes (with more than 100 women among them) from 44 nations competed that year, and for the first time the Games featured a closing ceremony” (History). Since then, the Olympics have been held all over the world including; London, Mexico, Munich, Beijing, Los Angeles and Vancouver. The Olympics continued to be held every four years until 1994 when the Summer and Winter Games began to alternate every two years.
The Olympics is one of the few activities that brings the world together. The Olympics first started in the ancient times, dating back to 776 BC. They were first dedicated to Olympian gods, but modern games are to give athletes an opportunity to show their skill, and for others to enjoy watching them (“History”). The first modern world wide olympics was held in Athens, Greece in 1896, having 14 countries participate, with over 200 total athletes.
In the Googling rabbit hole that happened to me after I read the essay, I encountered this Slate compilation of Olympics-related long form journalism. Slate ran this piece in 2012, before the Summer Olympics, so it's not as chilly a list as one someone will surely come out with over the next few weeks, but is is an excellent reminder of how much greater narrative there has been around the Olympics over the last long
The initial impression one makes on his or her classmates during Plebe Summer often carries with them throughout their time at the Academy. In many ways, it is unfortunate because people are not given a second chance to prove their worth, but in other cases, flaws in character and work ethic are observed and they are accurate from the first impression.

The portion of the presentation presented by Zoe Madams refers to some obstacles encountered during the inclusion of independent contractors. She mentions that such contractors were reluctant to “buy into the program” and among other things, they were unwilling to utilize the parent company’s adopted software, which was a requirement (Madams & Alexander, 2013). From the video it seems like the issues with contractors came after the projects were kicked off and started, which makes me think that a better job could have been done by providing clear guidance and setting specific requirements during the bidding process. Soliciting bids from only those contractors willing to adapt to the new methods and techniques specific for the projects comprised within the Olympic program could have minimize the problems encountered during execution and maybe even the need for such a high presence of managers in ground to oversee their work as a control mechanism.

The Games are held every four years in a different city and in 2012 London will be hosting the Games. London hosted the Olympic games previously in 1908 and 1948 and the upcoming games will make London the only city in the world to have hosted the Games three times.
Lack of project management clarity: the planning activity had lot of material but lacked content, clear action items and lack of consensus on the milestones. The difficulties in the project only increased with time and a more performance driven style would have kept things on track if introduced early on.
