It's not often that our family gets to fly back to the states to visit family so when my brother and I flew back during the summer of 2015, we were more than excited to be going back to South Carolina to see close relatives that we’d been missing. Since our relatives live on the coast it is often customary to visit the beach during our vacation to kick back and enjoy ourselves. After moving to Germany our experience with the sun and beach had been little to none. Needless to say, we were all excited to be going to the beach again since it had been some years and we’d forgotten what it was like to be at one. That summer vacation my brother and I were quickly reminded of all the fun to be had, the people we could meet, and the lessons we could learn while we were at the beach. When first arriving at the beach we were greeted by the sights of wet sand, crashing waves, strong blowing winds, and a hot radiating sun. After the initial setup of towels, umbrellas, and applying of sunscreen my cousins, brother and I bolted for the waves that rose up the shore. Swimming in a pool is nothing like swimming in the ocean, everything felt more extreme as we floated over waves and were dragged around by the current. It wasn't long until my brother and I were reminded of a childhood joy of ours, which was facing off against the waves. We would swim to a place where we could stand firmly and try to remain standing as waves would crash down often taking us with them. When we’d finish our fun
When thinking about getting away to some serene paradise to help forget about work or school obligations most people instantly think of the beach. Whether it be the west or east coast the beach is a universal symbol of peace and serenity, plus a little bit of fun. But this bliss has a whole different meaning to me. This is where I grew up and how I found myself. The west coast of Florida is the first time I felt the sand in my toes and the salt water on my face. These memories inspired me to give back to the ocean and its inhabitants and follow my dreams of becoming a marine biologist.
As I looked backed at what seemed to be a decent sized wave, I started paddling with all my might, digging through the water, deeper and deeper. The wave came closer and I felt a push from my cousin as I caught the wave. “Stand up” my cousin yelled behind me as the monstrous wave began to swallow me up. I stood up, rode the wave all the way to the shore, and fell in love with the sport of surfing. Since that day, I have loved everything one could ever love about the sport: The salty water as it touched my body, the push of the wave as it stood me up on my smooth yet sticky board, and the exhilarating rush that I felt after every perfect ride. But not quite everything about the sport came easy to me, it took a long ride to find the love I have for the sport today. When I first started competitively surfing, I
It was a sunny Friday afternoon when I decided to take my observations with me out into the world. This day happened on my spring break, in the beginning of April, my senior year. As I walked upon the beach the salty, floating breeze of Panama City was enough to make my knees go weak. I looked into the clear blue sky and saw the perfection of life. I took a moment to gaze about what nature has offered to me. Everything on this beach has its own unique feel and it has its own way of making you feel calm and relaxed.
In March of 2014, my family and I went on a vacation to Naples, Florida. One year before this, a part of my extended family moved to Naples. They moved there because of my uncle, Cory Briscoe. Cory needed 2 to 3 years of additional schooling to get a degree in Nurse Anesthesia. Thinking of going to Florida had been fantastic thus for unbelievable. Our plan was to go the week of spring break to get away from the cold weather in Idaho. Quickly the first day of spring break came, and we were off to the airport.
At one point, summer school was viewed as something negative, that only “bad” students who had failed a class or fell behind take in order to reach their peers’ levels. However, today summer school is seen as a big advantage that allows students to take courses before they are required to so they can take more rigorous classes sooner and make themselves for appealing for colleges. In the New York Times article, “Taking Summer School to Get Ahead, Not to Catch Up,” published on August 16, 2016, Kyle Spencer effectively incorporates ethos and logos to establish that taking summer classes to get ahead benefits a student’s chances of getting into college.
The importance of spring break is for students have a break of school, and when they enter school they could begin with their finals. In my spring break i liked bounding with my family and, visit the place we traveled.

After traveling for 3-hours, my family arrived at our beach house in Ocean City Maryland. After making a quick trip for groceries, we decided to go to bed and set alarm clocks for early in the morning. After a good nights sleep, I woke up to the pleasant smell of bacon and eggs. After feasting on a delightful breakfast, my brothers and I began to get ready for the beach. We went down the creaky wooden stairs of our beach house and unlocked the storage room located beneath the home. I decided to carry both of the floral umbrellas while my brothers took the portable beach chairs. After grabbing all of our gear, we headed back up the weathered stairs and towards the distant sand dunes. As we approached the entrance of the sand dunes, the satisfying sounds of the ocean's waves started to become closer and closer. Once we traveled closer, the vivid orange sun began to ascend from the deep sea. At this early point in the morning, the sand walkway enclosed by
Unfortunately, for many parents and students, most children are now on summer break. Some parents and students may be relieved; knowing that summer typically means a time for vacation and family time. But for many low-income families, school can be about more than just learning and summer is far from fun.
Once I was afraid of bodies of water since I did not know how to swim, now I am in love with any activity that has to do with water. I was raised in the Dominican Republic, a caribbean island, where it is customary to throw one’s child in the deep end of a pool so that their natural instinct of swimming is awakened. I was not the case. My mother pushed me to the water and amazingly enough I did not panic. Instead of panicking, I accepted my fate and sunk down. After about 30 seconds in my cousin dove in a took me out. Once out of the water, I began to panic. Consequently, I began crying, shaking and screaming at my mother for throwing me into the pool. Shortly after that my mother placed me in swimming classes and everything changed.
Spring break is supposed to be a great time from the second it begins, until the second it ends. Now there is always that boring time it takes to get to wherever you may be going no matter how far that may be it is always the least fun of the entire vacation. My last spring break’s car ride happened to be the least fun by far of any trip I have taken up to this point in my life.
Christmas break is a time of relaxation casting from Christmas day to New Year's day yet sometimes beyond or below the date range. However, times can be hectic and DYNAMIC during such a time period. Such as this one time in 2014's Christmas break when I was BROWSING on Bing for the vocal lyrics to several of the dozens of Christmas songs and melodies. I managed to stumble upon a MAKESHIFT site, a site that was called something that it was not. What it was, was INIMITABLE at the very least or inappropriate as some might say. What it did, did not have me at utmost concern, however, this search had to be ERADICATED from my laptop's history files. I was not merry of the situation I was placed under, I felt on the MARGINAL lines of FRUSTRATED and
The crash of the waves hitting the sand, the crisp scent of salt in the air, the soft grainy texture under the toes, the vast blue water stretching out in front looking endless, as I step into it ever so carefully. I descend into the refreshing water, with just a snorkel sticking above the brink. I am surrounded by neon colors of corals, fish and many other sea creatures. Encompassed by the sea life, I felt like they accepted me as one of their own as they whirled around me. The strategic way of swimming is new but life changing. Swimming amongst many other living species was difficult because you really couldn’t use your legs; if you did you could possibly disturb the life around you. Swimming without using your legs is quite difficult because you are then force to use just your arms to project yourself forward.
I cherish all of the places that I get to travel to and experience. Although, the summer vacation of 2014 really struck my attention when something very alarming happened. My mother, father, brother, two cousins (Cade and Callie), my uncle Al, aunt Kris, and I were all getting ready to board the subway train below the streets of Washington D.C. This was not my first ordeal with the putrid, murky railway; whereas it was my relatives first time. First, Cade and Drayton boarded the subway. Next, was Callie, and lastly, myself who all walked onto the subway. The doors began to close; warning us with a blaring beep, beep, beep!
The sun’s rays glisten across the water as my family and I lie on the golden sands of the beach to relax. Seagulls and other families are scattered around us along the length of the beach. My mom, my sister, and I lie next to each other, listening to the waves crashing against the ocean bank.
