In the television show Supernatural, the Winchesters used to be an extraordinarily simple family of four that lived in a picture-perfect, white-boarded house in Kansas; however, when the two brothers, Sam, the youngest, and Dean, the oldest, witness their mother being murdered by a luminescent-eyed demon, the serenity of their once-peaceful life engulfed into flames. In a small town, married men keep on disappearing from their cars with only blood smears left behind along a certain deserted road. After research into the victims and other disappearances over the past decade, they believe it to be the ghost of a woman who killed herself after drowning her two children. As a way to get back at her unfaithful husband, she continues to kill men who are unfaithful or secretive to their special other. In the end, they send the ghost to Hell to spend the rest of eternity. As the camera swoops in on Sam tracing the lines on a creased road map illuminated by flashlight, Sam explains that their dad should be in Blackwater Ridge. Expectant of Sam staying, Dean says, “On a full tank of gas, we could make it there by morning.” Then, with a sweeping close-up of Sam’s face, Dean knows, “I’ll take you home.” Hours later, as Dean pulls the Impala by Sam’s house, the grim separation slides between them like a butter knife, peeling off the resealed ties. As it zooms in past Dean and to a diagonal look-up to Sam closing the door, Dean says, “Hey, we made a good team back there.” With a reluctant, “Yeah,” the adventure is over, it seems; however, as the season is to continue, the end result is far from over.
