Natural Answers to Supernatural Questions
Many people believe in demonic possessions because this subject is mentioned in several verses of the bible such as Luck 4:33 which say “In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, “Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” This, along with other subjects such as efficacy of prayer, Ouija board, and talking to the dead has been debated for a long time. Believers have a supernatural explanation for these themes based on their religious beliefs. While non-believers, not satisfied with religious explanations, seek for a natural one based on tangible evidence.

Prayer works thanks to the incredible power of the mind. It turns out that when praying, the person tends to feel an inner peace and confidence. Moreover, when praying the person also shows himself more positive, making him capable of accomplish what he asked in his pray. This is because the positivism of the individual influences his actions and behaviors making him more susceptible to take a good decision. For example, Juan Hernandez, a local resident from Weslaco, Texas gave his testimony about how praying before his job interview helped him to feels positive and more confident, giving him the ability to take good decisions and to have a better performance in his job interview. In addition, pray is also considered a type of therapy. As mentioned before, when an individual prays he stimulates a sense of peace and positivism which are essential in recovery. Therefore, a person who prays during a recovery tends to have a faster one than another person who does not. However, in the bible there are numerous verses which speak about the supernatural power of prayer such as, 1 John 5:15 which says “And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we already possess what we have asked of Him.” However, modern medicine has proven that when praying, persons have a mental suggestion making them more self-confident and therefore, making them capable of accomplish what they …show more content…
In fact, mediums, can be found in any city of the country. This is because many people have the illusion of communicating again with their deceased loved ones and others request a medium in order to communicate with a spirit who is inside their houses. Whichever is the case, the only beneficiary will be the medium. Mediums only take advantage of the superstitions and hope of others with the purpose of generating profits. In the first place, mediums will try to know more about his client in order to elaborate an answer for him. However, without even knowing, the same client is the one who give him the information through a series of questions made by the medium. Now, with that information, the medium can work out in an answer that satisfies his client. But not before making an alleged invocation to the spirit. The medium will tell his client what he wants to hear and in return, he will receive a large sum of money for his supernatural services. Most people want to hear what they claim, from other people in order to support his affirmation. As matter of fact, if the person does not get the answer he wants to hear, it is very like he will request another medium until he gets what he wants to hear. Although it is known that most mediums are charlatans, some people argument the truthfulness of the supernatural powers of the mediums based on TV shows such as “Hollywood Medium” , where a medium invite celebrities
I wholeheartedly believe that prayer is a superior method of healing and guidance. When I talk to God through prayer, even if nothing immediate happens, I feel relieved and less burdened about issues I cannot control. I accept that sometimes you must be patient and that sometimes it may feel like you are on the wrong path, but as long as I keep praying for guidance, I know I will receive it (Matthew 7:7). The Lord has been a constant in my life and has provided me with many opportunities, some of which I never have fathomed and I praise him every day. Just as McMinn (2011) discusses, prayer is about petition and about worship and that prayer humbles us and “from this position of humility, we can see God’s will more clearly, and God grants us our deepest desires” (NUMBER).

The use of prayer and scripture in psychotherapy is something that Christian therapists and some non Christian therapists may choose to use within their sessions with Christian clients. An example of using scripture and prayer in a case where the client was experiencing racing thoughts and anxiety over too many problems occurring at one time; A counselor could assess the client to see if they agree with the statement that God wants to receive your burdens and heal your heart while sanctifying you. The counselor could even simply give these following scripture verses to the client: Romans 5:3-4,
Even though, I could deduce all these benefits after reading this journal, I disagree with the authors remark that “the use of prayer and Scripture is also not appropriate with Christian clients who are in active rebellion against God or who are so angry at God at the moment that they are not interested in pursuing any explicit spiritual
It also helps when people don’t know what to say, but still feel called to pray.
This process is said to be reciprocal, and follower must look after Lwa by performing these rituals, which can sometimes come in in the form of animal sacrifice. In the other hand some Voodooist ritual allow followers to thank the spirit for their protection, blessings or good fortune. To maintain a good relationship with the Lwa, or stay in good terms followers must all conduct themselves properly according to the customs of the community and the religion. The Lwa takes place of the host, and temporarily displaces its soul. According to this belief the medium cannot feel pain or become injured while he is in trans. The lwa speaks through the host giving intructions, advices or prophecies of future events. In some cases the Lwa can rebuke the host for failing to perform their duties. In Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, the protagonist, Sir Gawain, is illustrated as the imperfect hero of the tale. His documented imperfections and various flaws create a sense of irony when put into comparison with the depiction of the pentangle on his shield. The pentangle, designed by King Solomon of old as his own magical seal, symbolizes the virtues that Gawain aspires to uphold: to be faultless in his five senses, that his five fingers were never at fault, being faithful to the five wounds received by Christ on the cross, to be fortified by the five joys Mary conceived in her son, Jesus, (the Annunciation, Nativity, Resurrection, Ascension, and Assumption), and to abide by fraternity, chastity, and general courtesy (Greenblatt 640). Ultimately, Gawain does fault short of these virtues which he, literally, has on his person at all times, emphasizing the pentangle as an all encompassing symbol of knighthood and chivalry for the setting of the tale.
This article focuses on the use of prayer and scripture in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). First you must focus on the biblical approach which you acknowledge Gods love and deal with past hurts in a proper manner. You also must focus on Gods Holy Spirit and his scriptures. As the therapist you should not be in self, you have to focus on your client. You have to allow God spirit to be used in the therapy session. Voodoo which means “spirit” in Fon, was born in the West African country of Benin and is practiced by more than 4 million believers. The origins are not well known but it is thought to have evolved from ancestor worship and animism. ‘While practitioners believe in only one true God they communicate with him through thousands of different spirits and shrines.” It is practiced in many different countries and although they all have for the most part the same beliefs some of their practices are different. Spirit possession occurs in the “Birth of Voodoo” when the daughter of a Voodoo priest is chosen to be a spirit medium. She is claimed by the Earth spirit, Sakpata, and is thought to be dead; she lies for three days without
Duncan from the University of Minnesota, “it is well documented that hope, belief, and faith positively influence health outcomes” (2016) because of her strength she expressed in her God this spiritual intervention may be the most profound healing approach. Prayer requires a commitment from the individual but does not incur any expenses. Also, “Murphy's 2009 study examining religious beliefs in clinically depressed patients found that "belief in a concerned God can improve response to medical treatment" (2016, Duncan). Consequently, this spirit approach may touch all areas of concern by lifting her spirits and restoring her
Antonio and I are doing our best to respect the Nigerian culture. There is a lot of cultural differences between Nigerian culture and American culture sometimes it can be very confusing for me and Antonio. Did you know that half of the religious beliefs here is Muslim and the rest is split between Christianity and indigenous beliefs? There Constitution guarantees religious freedom; however, Christians live in the southern parts of the country where as the Muslim live predominantly in the northern parts. Native religious people believe in deities, spirits, and ancestral worship are spread throughout Nigeria. One day I was passing a nearby village where I witnessed a possessed man with a demon inside of him. They brought him to the village spirit doctor, where he chanted some spells while holding him down to cast the demon out. It was to believe that after all of that the man was relieved from his demon. It was scary and interesting for me to watch the exorcism being performed. Although, Americans do those things too Christianity is the dominant religion. Instead of seeing a witch doctor for help with your demons, most people would just confess their sin to a pastor or father of the church after which they then walked away feeling forgiven and blessed. Which is basically way easier and less
