One of the worst things that can happen in a survival situation is not being prepared. There are two ways you can not be prepared the first is with knowledge the second is not being supplied. When one is not prepared the elements can quickly take their life. Depending on what part of the world you are in animals can are a large danger. Hear are some examples the rattlesnake, bobcat, mountain lion and coyotes. If this is not scary enough then consider starving or dying of dehydration. One way to fix all of this is to be prepared with knowledge. What i mean if you know how to use the great outdoors to your advantage it can help you to survive. A example of this is making a shelter and fire with nothing but bear hand and a shoelace. This is the only solution to not being prepared …show more content…

He makes a tent from a tarp in his pack than he makes sure it is out of the flood zone. Bill purifies some water with iodine he proceed to make a fire with a bow drill made out of dry wood and his shoe lace. once he has fire he places a red shirt in a tree as a flag. After a week he is rescued by helicopter he is starving and is happy to be saved. This shows the importance of survival
It was a wonder discovery. The mosquitoes had nearly driven him mad and the thought of being rid of them lifted his spirits. On another trip he looked back and saw the smoke curling up through the trees and realized, for the first time, that he now had the means to make a signal. He could carry a burning stick and build a signal fire on top of the rock, make clouds of smoke and perhaps attract attention. Which meant more wood. And still more wood.” This aha moment can change things for Brian because he now knows that he could find a way to signal the rescuers when they come and save him. This could lead to a better, safer, and easier way for Brian to get found. Also, he now can cook food for more nutrients that he has lost during the days he has been eating only berries turtle
Brian couldn't survive without food so he had to go hunting he made a small bow and arrow. With sticks and string from the survival pack and sharpened rocks to make the arrow heads and he would kill small birds and rabbits. But that bow wasn't getting the food that he needed cause he only hit the animals half the time and sometimes it didn't kill the animals. So he made a bigger and better bow and this he could barely pole back and with that he killed a deer and a moose but the moose didn't die and
Brian was a 13 year old boy who’s plane crashed in the woods in Canada. It was fall and no one was around to help him. He was left to try to survive. He built a shelter to live in. He constantly had fires going to keep himself warm. He had some survival stuff such as cooking pots, a hunting knife, forks, spoons, a first aid kit, a cap, fishing line, lures, hooks, sinkers and packets of dry food. Brian learned warning signs such as when it was getting cold. He also got warnings that something wasn’t right. One instance of that was when Brian’s rifle stopped working. The warning he got was when he felt a touch on his cheek. That resulted in him learning how to make bows and arrows. He hunted various animals such as rabbits, deer, and mule. To keep wolves away, Brian marked his territory. Living in the woods gave Brian a lot of work to do. Such as when he had to fix his shelter after a bear came to steal some of his food. He had a skunk living next to him who sprayed the bear away. To get food, Brian had to hunt and kill animals. Winter came and Brian’s cloths were ruined. Brian was forced to hint in the snow. It got so cold that when he spit, the salvia bounced on the ground. He celebrated Thanksgiving with ribs from a mule. In the end, he comes to a crude log shelter. Someone was living there. The man, who was living there, took him in and shared some of his food with Brian. Brian is
When Roger Woodward was 7 years old he went on a boat for the first time in his life. His family was celebrating his 17 year old sister’s birthday with a tour of niagara falls by boat. Rogers mother’s one condition about this trip was that he wore a life jacket because roger did not know how to swim. In not long roger would be falling down the falls. The day was perfect for boating it was warm and the waters were calm. The owner of the boat jim honeycutt let roger steer the boat. They were heading toward sandbar and on the way there the mortar of the boat hit a rock. Honeycutt cut the engine after hitting the rock. They were drifting toward the falls. For some reason Honeycutt had no anchor so he was trying to paddle the other way but the
What would happen if you got stuck in the wilderness? 13 year old Brian Robeson is stuck in the wilderness with only 63 cents in coins, a fingernail clipper, a wallet with 20 dollars, his belt, the clothing he has on, a tattered windbreaker, a broken watch, and the hatchet his mother gave him. How would Brian survive with just those items? Brian used survival strategies such as trial and error, using his hatchet, and thinking positively
People will go to the extreme to survive. For example, Bear Grills in his popular TV show “Man vs. Wild”. Once he had to drink his own urine and even sleep inside the carcass of an animal to keep warm. People have been known to do things they normally wouldn’t do in order to survive.
Courage also was a big factor in their survival. Courage, the ability to do something that frightens one. The characters in Unbroken had to have lots of courage to do a lot of the things needed for survival. This involves battling sharks and dodging bullets from above. "Louie waited until the shark was inches from him, then struck it in the nose" (page 155). This takes a lot of courage to get in the water and hit a shark, especially since it is much stronger than a human. Louie also knew that if he didn't hit the shark, then it would've killed him and possibly the rest of the crew. In this journey the crew struggles for food, they were constantly hungry, and at risk of dying. "Louie clapped his hands around the tail and heaved it out
Survival is one of the primal instincts of human nature. It is programmed into human beings at birth, and cannot be easily masked. No matter how morally wrong the
There’s nothing growing yet.’ But his mind was pretty well made up. He was chomping at the bit to get out there and start hiking,” (Krakauer, 109-110). The “Survival Statistics” states that you should, “Study weather patterns, geography, environmental hazards, (e.g. avalanche, flash flooding, dangerous animals, etc.)” (befoundalive.com).
There are many different ways to get ready for a disastrous occurrence. Geography would be important in a case like this. Like, in the case of a zombie apocalypse, Yuko Caras said that he would try to understand the characteristics of the zombies. It would be useful to see what they can and can't do. You would want to know how fast, or slow they move, where they were at first, so you can estimate where they will be in the future, and the amount of space they take up. You would also want to know where natural resources are, and get to those natural resources, but only if they don't have zombies. It would be of importance to know your coordinates. You would want to know what the climate of where you are, where you are headed, and everything in between. Additionally, something that you would want to know is where the major rivers are.You would want to know the states that are boardering the state that you are in. Something else that would be of importance would be to do research on not only the zombies, but your surroundings. You would want to know where you libraries are so that you
He uses the shelter to protect him from the rain and some animals. After he builds the shelter, Brian uses his hatchet to make spears and arrows. He takes branches and sharpens the tip of them to make arrows and spears. "He had worked on the fish spear until it had become more then just a tool. He shoots the arrows at birds and throws the spears at fish. "I know about fire; I know I need fire." Brian says this the second night he's there. Brian needs a fire because he needs it for heat, to cook food and to keep animals away. Brian makes the fire with his hatchet and a rock. First, he figures out that he needs some paper so he takes his 20-dollar bill and tries to burn it. Unfortunately, the bill just burns right out and leaves him with no fire. After that, he takes his hatchet and cuts small pieces of bark. Then he piles them up under twigs. Then he takes his hatchet and hits a rock with a great blow and sparks catch the bark on fire. He hits another blow and the sparks catch the twigs on fire. Therefore, he has a fire. This process shows that whatever Brian sets his mind to he can do it. About two months later Brian went to the bottom of the lake to see if there was anything useful in the plane. He brought up a survival package. There were many useful things in there like bandages and matches. Couple months later, just before winter was going to hit a man shows up in a plane. The guy in the plane was the man Brian had talked
In this generation people have very strong opinions and judge people on many things that they can’t help. Even though slavery ended over 150 years ago, and after Hitler started the Holocaust people would think that everyone would be accepted as their own and not for their race or religion but they didn’t. To this day people still have very harsh and strong opinions on something they have no knowledge of. This is called prejudice. In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Lee demonstrates prejudice in a way like no other.
This young man, residing in the Outback of Australia, decided to run away from home when he was 18 years of age. However, he chose a really bad time to do so: during a record heat wave. Hikers found the boy roughly nine weeks after he was last seen, and was weak and unable to stand as well as pretty confused. After he was brought back to civilization, he revealed that he had survived solely by drinking creek water.
