As a strong feminist , susan glaspell wrote”trifles” and then translated it to a story called”A Jury of Her Peers”. Both writings tell a story about a man. John wright, that was mysteriously murdered in his sleep. The men in the story are trying to solve the mystery, but look down on the women and their opinions. The women are the ones that end up finding most of the mystery solving clues, and susan glaspell hides many messages in the writing. These works express glaspell’s view of the way women were treated at the turn of the century. Although glaspell is an acclaimed feminist, her story does not contain the traditional feminist views of equal rights. The play and short story are written very alike but also changes have been made. It trifles the attorney criticizes the mess. The women then try to explain and because of this they are drawn together in action. In a jury of her peers the women have “sympathize”understanding. Sympathize means to be in sympathy or agreement of feeling; share in a feeling. Which basically means that women are connected in a way to where they know what’s going on in each other’s minds. Because of this the women then describe the description. The attorney then laughs.

Thirdly is the comparison of the details. In “ A Jury Of Her Peers” you get a lot of details about how everything happened. You get to learn a lot about the murder, and how the characters felt. You get a really great description of the setting as well. The theme of the story is also easier to determine than in the play. In “Trifles” you don't get to learn as much about the background of the situation. You don't get a great description of the setting and the theme is not as easily determined.
