• One reason why parents might not suspect that their child is being abuse is that the perpetrator may have an emotional bond with the parent, which means they can be a family friends that has gained their trust. Another reason why is that the parent may not provide adequate supervision for several reasons, which are they believe that the child is able to care for themselves so they don’t care to monitor if they are on the internet as well as allowing them to walk home alone from school without realizing that they can get exposed to dangers.
Child abuse is something that unfortunately is very prevalent in Missouri. In 2012, there were 91,812 incidents and children reported to the Child Abuse/Neglect Hotline. (Missouri Department of Social Services, 2013) Thankfully there are laws that protect these children being abused. In Missouri statutes specifically there is Chapter 568, Offenses Against the Family, Section 060.
With child abuse and neglect being so prevalent globally, it is important to recognize why these types of maltreatment occur and is a relevant topic for all to explore. Many are interested in how child abuse and neglect affect the individuals who are victims as well as the use and efficacy of treatment procedures. Child abuse has serious physical and psycho-social consequences which adversely affect the health and overall well-being of a child. There are long-term consequences of experiencing these forms of maltreatment. Awareness and understanding needs to be brought to this devastatingly common crisis and the advancement of child abuse and neglect prevention needs to be encouraged.

The goal of our program is to decrease the amount of child abuse and neglect in Madison County, IL. The purpose of our proposal is to obtain funding to expanding the Crisis Nursery to the Madison County, Illinois area. Our program hopes to provide a temporary safe haven for children ages 0-18 and aid in child development. With the expansion of the Crisis Nursery to the Madison county area parents or caregivers who are not able to travel to St. Louis will have accesses to all of the various programs the Crisis Nursery has to offer. Children will be able to get proper medical attention, as well as food, shelter and aid in child development. If accepted for funding the Madison County Crisis Nursery will be running by November 2017.

Soreness is also a physical indicator which can lead to suspicion of abuse , soreness around a Childs genitals or soreness around the anal which is caused by sexual abuse , Infections are another physical indicator infections such as genital infections like

One of the worst records among industrialized nations that is losing on average almost five children everyday due to child abuse is the United States. The most recent report 2015 Child Maltreatment Report from The Children’s Bureau was published in January 2017. This document has stated that the number of child abuse cases has increased to 4 million from 3.6 million. 7.2 million children were involved in child abuse reports. Reporting child abuse is a serious matter. It is okay to report neglect or abuse because they may feel that the child is in danger. As long as they report it to the right authority they are not violating the law. HIPPA allows this type of disclosure without parental or guardian permission. The guardian should be verbally notified unless it would place the child at risk. In some states they are required to report names of people with positive HIV test to public health authorities for infectious diseases surveillance. If I was ever in a situation where I had to report a serious a matter I would not go around telling everyone according to the HIPAA you must always report to the appropriate authority.
