Business organizations today are socially and ethically responsible for doing the right thing, exercising good judgment in their business activities with employees, stakeholders, customers and the community. Business organizations emphasis should not only be on profits, but also on how business decisions impact society.
Every business organization has a social responsibility in ensuring that the environment it operates in is protected. Many companies have identified that they have a major role to play in protecting the natural habitat and ensuring that business is not only about making profits. Some organizations are setting aside funds that are developed in the protection of the environment while other organizations are setting a tree-planting day as part of their annual calendar. Companies have legal and ethical responsibilities that guide the organization in making sure that the environment is taken care of. The natural resource depletion and the environmental pollution have led to conservation groups setting rules that govern the company in utilizing natural resources.
I wanted to emphasize that each country is affected by poverty somewhat differently, with different means of handling their poverty problems. In developing countries poverty is the rule, not the exception and without the aid from developed nations, these countries are stuck in a poverty trap.
2. Which of the following is a valid criticism concerning the goal of firms to maximize profits? (Points : 2)
In our country law there is no business having obligation to protect environment. But a lot of company are don't care about their moral responsible and it give more negative impact toward environment. Good example would be toxic wastes cost them illegally to dump into the lake. All these wastes had destroyed all the food chain system and the wild habitats in the country. This case can looked in more theory who say that our tasks are more for protect human welfare and this idea was know as "ecology ethic" or " ocean ecology" which state that environment must be protect, regardless of either it gives direct effect to mankind or not.
Nearly half the world’s population: over three billion people live on less than $2.50 a day. Poverty is a prevailing issue that effects people coming from many walks of life. Poverty itself is the state of being inferior in quality of insufficient in amount; consequently, many economists and sociologists argue that poverty is the root cause to many other terminal issues that society faces. Because those in poverty cannot provide the fundamentals for themselves, they effectually live less healthy, educational, and happy lives. Although I myself come from relative poverty for an American, I recognize that many others not only in America, but around the world are less fortunate. Ultimately, I believe that it is our ultimate ethical obligation
Inherently, self-interest motivates market producers to pursue their economic goal of profit maximization even at the expense of their competitors, an illustration of prisoner’s dilemma. Businesses have used production inputs that permanently damaged common natural resources such as petroleum reserves, earth’s atmosphere and biodiversity. Other effects include global warming and depleted resources for future generations. Privatization of the common-pool goods does not guarantee that the market can avert the phenomenon. The government will have to inevitably assign specific property rights over renewable natural resources. Alternatively, the state can also adopt policies that encourage private enterprise or individuals to develop or use green energies as alternative to the traditional energy sources in the case of the Environmental Protection Agency. Lastly, the government can complement with nonprofits in implementing programs that address market failures. Nonprofits are not bounded by profit distribution thereby facilitating them to adopt missions to sustain social value and continuously pursue opportunities to innovate, learn and adapt. As an example, World Wildlife Fund has a mission of environmental conservation and implements activities to protect the global natural
Perhaps using an ethical theory such as utilitarianism may offer an explanation for this issue. Classic utilitarianism, the one discovered by Bentham, often interpreted as Act utilitarianism considers ‘greatest good for the greatest number’ for the good of business expansion and the present and long term good for people versus the good for the environment. Considers the majority affected by a certain action – general welfare is important and often seen as good business policy: the general good of the organisation is more important than that of the individual. However, the best business transactions are the ones in which the best result is achieved, when everyone involved has
The economy today runs on an antiquated ritual of exploiting, plundering, devastation, and manipulation of land for material wealth, profiting the wealthy and condemning the poor. This mindset is no more sophisticated than feudalism, a system so bad it had to be outlawed along with witchcraft. The idea that exploitation of land is justified has brought plastics to the ocean and leveled rainforests. Large corporations have grown larger by manufacturing and production, depleting the planet’s resources in the process. Now, companies must make a combined effort to put the environment first, before profit. Because of their harmful practices, consumers have the right to know where products come from, how they’re made, and the impact on the environment. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the large corporations to change their harmful practices, to make strides towards ending climate change and use clean, sustainable methods.
When the government gets involved and taxes goods and services, it raises revenue for the government, decreases the quantity of goods produced and consumed and therefore, both consumers and the producer of the good will pay, splitting the costs of the tax and leveling up with society’s.
The government tends to look at things based on an “economical standpoint” that tends to run biased- as they tend to ignore the moral/ethical aspects of the issue at hand. However, citizens and businesses tend to APPEAR on the same side of the fence because businesses will do anything to give the customers, or citizens what they want. However, the sad reality is that many businesses Greenwash their products into seeming more environmentally friendly.
We believe in this long held notion that corporations will never think of doing for the greater good of society and care only and only for their own profit maximization. This may be true in many cases like we hear about Gap’s factory working conditions in Bangladesh, Apple in China and so on. However this may not mean that every corporation is bad and that we should keep bashing the whole corporate sector for this. We have to admit that there is a problem with the declining quality of the environment and the problem with the bad working conditions of outsourced factories and businesses. We also have to admit that the public and the private sectors are always bashing each other. Blaming one another for these issues will not
