SECTION 1- Logistics Decisions at VXL automotive
1. Identify and explain all the constraints
In this report, city model is called as “C” and family model is simplified as “F”.
Owing to the head of Logistic and Supply Production Planning team has mentioned that the figure of car production in February should not over the forecast of March 2013 multiplied by 1.06 (corrective factor). Meanwhile, the figure must not lower than number in February.
3514 ≤ C ≤ 3784

Profit margin | F | C | Max profit margin | 25% | 2154 | 3784 | 6477 | 30% | 2154 | 3784 | 6584 | 33% | 2154 | 3784 | 6649 | 40% | 2357 | 3514 | 6813 |
If the process is improved, the graph shows that the max profit margin increase steadily as the profit margin percentage advance. It can be seen that the F & C remain the same except the percentage of 40%. In terms of profit margin 40%, the family model raises to 2357 cars whist the city one falls down to 3514. By following that, the VXL can have the largest profit, 6813, among these percent.
6. The strike of GMB national union
If 75% workers reduce 8 hours work time a month, the max profit margin will go down due to the number of family model cars decrease.
First, calculating the right total work time. The total work time has to combine the strike part and the non-strike part then counts in the factor of the absenteeism rate, 4%.
[650*(160-8)*0.75+650(160)*0.25]*(1-0.04)= 96096 hours
MARGIN | 6,046 |
Second, revising the constraints of total work time into 96096 for solver. By following this, it can be seen that the family model cars reduce from 2154 to 1967 and the counterpart remains the same. Turning to the max profit margin, it drops to 6046 from 6261.
