However, according to Piper (1997) there were about 6,000 cases diagnosed in North America alone in 1986. Some experts estimate that multiple personality disorder, or MPD, affects 5 to 10 percent of the population, or about 100 million people worldwide. For such a widespread disorder, the public's lack of knowledge about it is pretty shocking. One explanation for this lack of knowledge could be the fact that many people, fueled by the beliefs of many noted psychologists, do not believe the

He was paralyzed with fear as he watched his mother, sister, and two beautiful nieces board the cattle wagons. The door slammed shut on them and the lines of people continued to move forward onto the next wagon. Somehow he won a ticket to live that day and knew he should get out of there fast. But just ahead of him, he saw Rosa - the beautiful, kind, selfless girl from his building. Isaac realized he must act no matter what the cost. He mustered up all the confidence left in him and told the officer, “that’s my sister. I want to be with her.” The Nazi approached Rosa and asked if Isaac was her brother. She said yes and, sure enough, the Nazi allowed her to get out of line and leave with Isaac. Later on, they survived together working as slaves in an ammunition factory for 4 years. The disorder that was discussed in the movie was disassociate identity disorder (DID). The DSM-5 describes DID as a person being diagnosed with two or personality states, as and/or have constant bouts of amnesia (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, p.291). It is also noted in the DSM-5, that the changes in personality are usually subtle, and are only more noticeable as stress and anxiety increase (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, p. 292). Therefore it seems as though the movie Sybil, is a bit exaggerated for dramatic purpose.
