Symbolic-Interaction Perspective is about how people naturally assign meanings to things. Occasionally these meanings have some ground to stand on but that is not always the case. These subjective meanings shape the way we view the world. Symbolic-Interaction Perspective can be taken advantage of in order to influence consumers by using tools like the media. The symbolic meanings that society assigns to objects and such sometimes have little to no sound reasoning behind them. We just go with it because thats how we are hardwired. For example, if something is green than we tend to associate it with being natural or environmentally friendly. The reasoning is that things in nature like grass and leaves are green so my face cream that just happens to be in a green jar must be made of natural ingredients. Most of us associate stealing with unpleasant things because we were taught from a young age that stealing is wrong. Someone who grew up in an environment where stealing stealing is encouraged might associate it with reward. The idea is true for sports team loyalties. A lot of people pick their sports teams in relation to where they grow up or their parents alliances, even if the team sucks. This is because they are surrounded by people saying this team is bad and this team is good. Most people who grew up in the Boston area are not going to go out and buy a New York Yankees hat. If that person looked at a Yankees hat and a Red Sox hat, they’d probably be thinking on some level Yankees = Bad and Red Sox =
