The Kite Runner was written by Khaled Hosseini the main characters of the book are Amir, Baba, Rahim Khan, and Hassan. The kite runner is about 2 youngs boys who grew up in afghanistan named amir and hassan. Amir is of a higher class then Hassan who is Amir’s servant. Amir’s father baba is a rich man and the family owns servants. Amir and Hassan are close friends until Hassan is raped by a older boy named Assef who bullies both of them. After this Amir is wracked with guilt and pushes Hassan away to try forget what happened. Amir frames Hassan for theft and Hassan and his father leave the family. Later Baba and Amir are forced to flee to america by the russian invasion. Amir lives in america and gets married until he gets a call from Rahim Khan a friend of his father who tells him that he has a chance to redeem himself by saving Hassan's son Sohrab from the taliban who have killed Hassan. one symbol from the story is Amir’s scar that he gets during his fight with Assef. this scar gives him the appearance of having a hair lip just like Hassan. This scar symbolizes Amir’s relationship with Hassan and allows him to feel that he has redeemed himself for hurting his friend so very much. “The impact had cut your upper lip in two, he said clean down the middle. Clean down the middle. Like a harelip.”(Hosseini,297). Another example of symbols in the kite runner is the pomegranate tree that Amir and Hassan carve their names into. The tree represents their friendship, when they are young the tree is healthy just like their relationship. But when Amir returns to the site as an adult wracked with guilt over how he treated his friend, the tree has withered and died.
