Throughout my life, dentistry has been defined through various circumstances. During childhood, a visit to the local dentist was as simple as getting my teeth cleaned and a free toothbrush. However, throughout my professional career in the field of dentistry, I can confidently conclude that dentistry is a limitless field in which art and science collide. It is a health profession where during the educational process, one develops the skills to pursue their desires and with experience further enhances their skills throughout life. Dentistry enables professionals to alter a person's facial appearance, alleviate a patient from pain, and bring about an impact on the patient through their smiles.
This year, the topic for our dental capstone project is to solve a problem in the dental field through informing the community. We figured that most people aren’t completely aware of the different specialties of dentistry. It is common to visit the general dentist every 6 months for teeth cleaning, but many people don’t know about oral and maxillofacial surgeons, or pedodontists, etc. Our purpose for this capstone project is to educate the public on the differences between the several dental specialties. By creating 3-Dimensional models of each dental office, we are able to demonstrate the uniqueness and purpose of each specialty.
Technology is a very growing area and one cannot be successful if they are not up on the latest. In the dental field, most dental offices are now “digital and paperless”. It will be my responsibility to make sure that I teach my students how to function in a digital environment. In order to do this, I must be proficient in this area. If I will be successful, I must know what new procedures and technology is being used in the dental field. “Dental technologies have been evolving continually, helping to transform the field of dentistry. New technologies are developed with a focus on creating products and developing techniques that can be used by dentists to help prevent, diagnose and/or treat dental conditions and diseases
My love for orthodontics has developed at a young age when my confidence has shined after finishing my treatment. The happiness I experienced at that moment is a feeling that I would love to share with my patients every day. The anthropology of orthodontics has also been a very fascinating topic to me. Coming from an Egyptian background has increased my interest in learning how the evolution of teeth has changed across different ethnicities throughout centuries. My fascination for the specialty has grown when I shadowed orthodontists and noticed that cases are presented in a way where teeth need to be puzzled together to create a beautiful smile. Also, expressing a personality that loves to connect with people and their families makes orthodontics a very enjoyable field. Orthodontic patients are usually excited about coming in and moving forward with their treatment, this leads to having a friendly environment where everyone works together to provide the highest quality of care to the patients. In combing my personal experience with my desire to solve puzzles to help people radiant beautiful smiles, I believe that orthodontics is the perfect fit for my personality and

Dental hygiene plays an important role in oneś life, from infanthood to elderhood oral health is a visual into healthy bodies. Throughout one’s life annual dentist visits are a need to keep a mouth fresh and disease free. Looking back into my own childhood and the first visit, I was happy to be there. In fact, I found this new adventure in the dentist office better than being in a doctor's. Being a small child and coming into the office for a check up, the first face I saw was a dental hygienist. That meeting later motivated me to do all my studying to become one myself.

Oral health is an important part of an overall health. Oral diseases ranging from cavities to cancer are all serious threats to an oral health. Research shows that there may be a link between oral disease and other health problems such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke as well as pre-term and low-birth-weight babies. If left untreated, it can cause more complications to the oral health. Periodontal disease, root caries and infections and other oral cancer can lead to severe pain, loss of teeth and serious health conditions. As a health care provider, it is significant to realizing the connection between oral diseases and systemic diseases so that we all can deliver our services to prevent and help treat disease while it is still manageable. Expanding the role of dental hygienists might reduce the most serious consequences of limited access to dentists, and dental hygienists are potentially well suited to play an important role in expanding affordable access (1).
