If the location has been donated for a specific purpose, the designer should go and see the site to descide how to make the monument relevant to its location. The masterpiece should also have a tied history or event to the location, such as the 9/11 memorial located at ground zero. The responsibility of designing and building a monument is no small feat. After all, the end product is meant to memorialize important, and sometimes tragic events and/or people that have significantly contributed something to society. How does one begin to plan a memorial in the first place? Certainly, it can not be rushed, and can be a very grueling process. Several things need to be considered, including determining the proper location of a monument that suits the people who see it. One must also consider the intended audience and what the monument represents. Of course the simplicity or complexity of the monument structure must also be determined. Along with that, monument builders need to consider the positive and/or negative affects on people viewing the monument. In short, there are three main things that need to be considered when debating how, or even if, to make a monument.

Grosvenor led other residents from Athens to create the Athens Monument Association to fund the monument. And so the monument was then erected in 1963.
How can one consider size, materials, and location of equal importance in the creation of monument, when the location determines how many people will view the monument and whether the monument is respectful to the event or person it represents? Although it is important to consider the materials and size when a monument will be created to memorialize a person or event, the most important factor to be considered in the creation of a memorial is the location because in order for a monument to be seen, it must be placed in an adequate location.
