As a fully qualified teacher, current MAT program student at Strayer University with 10 years of varied experience in education, there’s much I can offer to the education of children. I have more than 19 years of experience in mentoring and coaching teaching in both public and private schools throughout the States of Georgia and South Carolina. I am confident and passionate in my abilities to teach, as well as integrate technology, development and meet the individual needs of my students. Together with my skills and experience, they will enable me to make a significant difference at your educational institution. I have the desire and strong interest in all areas of education and committed to promote a positive, dynamic learning experience and
I seek to join Teach for America to give back to low income communities I have always had a passion to serve my community, rather if it was by volunteering at the local Boys and Girls Club, visiting the elderly, or lending a helping hand at Habitat for Humanity. If given the opportunity to join Teach for America I would be able to not only serve a local community but also teach the future leaders of America. I believe that a quality education should not be upon the basis of race or family income, but from the quality of the educator that comes in contact with each child. It is as if the quality of the teacher can somehow have an everlasting effect on the students that he or she comes in contact with. It is an endless cycle of an unmotivated and uncaring teacher’s coming into school districts and helping to further hinder the students. The
Having discovered my calling to work with nontraditional students, I took a position with St. Charles Youth and Family Services as a Teacher of Experiential Education. This position allowed me to interact with urban students from MPS who were expelled, court ordered or Special Education students who were deemed best suited to self-contained program. I loved the challenge every day. Every student was so different, but they all wanted and craved the same thing… acceptance and unconditional love. I wanted more.
Poor behaviour: If any of the pupils are not focused due to poor behaviour you need to intervene straightaway. If pupils are able to continue interrupting they will do so. Always praise the good behaviour of pupils who are doing what they need to. As a last resort, if one particular pupil
272) By allowing our parents/community members to have a voice in our program, we can actually see how much we are engaging them in our program. By listening to the parents, the community members, and assessing our program we can see what we are lacking in when it comes to their involvement. As I spoke in the previous paragraph about the parents being their child’s first teacher, our community also plays a big role in the education of our children. When children have the support of their community, it shows them that their community cares about them so the children will in turn want to care about and support their
Why are you interested in teaching at an Uncommon school and how have you demonstrated a commitment to urban education in the past? *
It’s our job also to be the resources that our students need. Opening up to our students will help them with the unjust education system, social, and inequality there is in this world, it’s a life skills every student's need. As a teacher I want to be able to help students who are struggling at home, communities, and in school of course. I want my students to beat the achievement gap that is towards them and pulling them down to succeed. Most parents don’t have a choice but to work two more jobs just to pay bills and put food on the table, it’s not their fault they aren’t part of their kids education road. Communities that these kids live in have low or lack the resources these kids need to succeed in their life or do well in school. That’s why I’m pursuing this road of not to just be any kind of teacher but to also be a parent to these kids that needs just love and support in their life. I’m looking forward to my journey to make a differences in my students
The sad reality is that kids living in underserved communities face real challenges in inequalities of available resources in health and in education. A lot of these schools lack essential tools like books. Consequently, kids are reading below appropriate reading levels. Children living in these areas have a higher incidence of not receiving a high school diploma, and moving onto college. The need to further education has become a necessity, and I understand the impact that a good education has on the quality of life. I want to close the achievement gap so that students of all backgrounds have a fighting chance in obtaining a better future for themselves. From my understanding TFA is the perfect platform to do that because I would have a network
Teach for America has had its share of controversies. The organization has placed TFA corps members into positions previously held by veteran teachers. Some districts are laying off veteran teachers and replacing them with TFA to ease budget issues. The practice of laying off veteran teachers and replacing them with TFA has been reported in Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, and Washington, D.C. (Heilig & Jez, 2010). Veteran teachers are having to compete with Teach for America recruits for teaching positions despite their lengthier training because TFA recruits are cheaper than teachers with experience or advanced degrees (Hootnick, 2014).
The teachers are highly qualified teachers with 100% holding a bachelor's degree or higher. Our staff is consists of teachers from various backgrounds and traditional teacher programs.
My desire to teach has been a long time coming, with parents who have a background in education, it was bound to happen. Dulles FFA has presented numerous opportunities for me to better learn how to teach young adults. Not only has it taught me how to be a successful leader in my community, it has taught me the In’s and Out’s of the
I 'm currently serving as a 2013 Corps member for Teach For America. I joined teach for America because I believe in their mission that all students deserve an equal an excellent education. I also joined because they work with schools where students are growing up in poverty and low income communities; a resemblance of my past. You see, we become our worst critics and even the mir image of success vanishes when our thoughts become clouded with fantasies; imaginative thoughts of the impossible. I longed for success, making it clear that the riches were of no importance to me. To others it appeared that I yes she, is writing her own story; untold was the beginning.
More than 16 million children grow up in poverty. One in three of those kids will not graduate high school. From the kids who do graduate 18% won’t be able to attend four years of college. Knowing those statistics and how they affected children all around the U.S. Wendy Kopp wanted to change those statistics. Wendy Kopp was born in Austin, Texas on June 29th, 1867.
Let’s imagine a school with small group classroom sizes, preparing students for college and careers after high school. Also with diverse AP and honor classes by creating a program to help aid students to learn about these classes and the benefits. Since they haven’t created a program to prevent students falling into the government system. In my eyes this is an ideal school that can help and benefit students and the future way of learning. Although Denver South High School is doing well in the areas of diversity and culture, south could improve on preparing students for future careers, enlightening students on the benefits of AP and honor courses provided at the school and also creating
I am quite fortunate to work at a site that I was able to be part of creating our school’s vision. Lorena Falasco Elementary School’s mission statement is: “In partnership with our community, Lorena Falasco Elementary School is committed to creating a safe and positive environment with high expectations that encourage success and lifelong learning for everyone.” With that in mind, parent education and involvement are crucial for a school to be successful in doing so. At this time I am co-leading a parent education class that is being held at Lorena Falasco Elementary School we have completed seven of the eight workshops. The parenting workshop combines parenting and leadership skills that will empower parents to become vital contributors to their children’s academic success. There are eight workshops that we will present, which will create parent leaders and also provide positive
