TWS-C Shadow Reflection Activity Outline
Pre-Observation:
1. Why did you choose this student? I chose this student to watch how she interacts with other students and works individually when provided the time. In the Ag classroom, she seems to interact with the same students unless specifically asked to work with other students.
2. What question(s) do you have that you think will be answered by observing him/her in other environments?
• How does this students interact with other students in various classes?
• How can I hook her interests to have her share?
• What are other teachers doing to with their content that I might be able to use in my classroom to help all types of students?
During the observation (NOTE: the purpose of this is not to be critical of the student or teacher, but simply to observe and reflect):
3. Sometimes it’s enlightening to walk in the student’s shoes for a while. What are your impressions of the student’s day? On September 12, 2017, I observed the student during her second hour science class. She seemed happy and ready to learn. This I gathered from the amount of smiling she was doing through the first half of the class period. As the class continued, the student seemed to be more serious and pensive about her learning. I took interpreted this as she was ready to learn or review the material at hand. The next day, I went to the student’s sixth hour English class. The student seemed to be focused on the tasks at hand for the day. As the class
* Observe and record certain elements of the pupil’s academic work therefore taking some pressure off the teacher having to complete all observations themselves.
My observation for the spring semester was placed at Pine Richland High School. I was able to watch over John Dolphin’s twelfth grade British literature course. John Dolphin has been teaching at Pine Richland for the past eighteen years. I went to observe his class three times. Two out of three of those visits I was able to be at the school all day long to really get the feel of the way it is like to be at the school all day and seeing the difference of his eight classes. Throughout my time there I learned different strategies on how to keep the students involved, the way that a school of this size is ran, and the difference of how John taught compared to my previous observation teacher.
“We need to talk about your daughter's performance,” my homeroom teacher, Mrs. Nelson, baldly admitted to my father. “She, no doubt, is a wonderful student,” she beamed at me, yet her smirk did not seem to reach her black, stern eyes, “she has perfect attendance, always has assignments and homework done, never talks unless called on, and just in whole, a polite and good-natured, young lady. But, she is still struggling immensely. As a result, I deem that it would be
The participating students were observed for a period of two days. It took place during reading class. The observation had to be during the beginning of class until
When the children walked into the classroom, they all seemed excited and eager to start their day. Miss Suzy greeted each student with respect and a smile on her face. Every child seemed to know where
Living in Idaho I have had the pleasure of being seen or shadowing optometrists who have attended the College of Optometry. Dr. Hopstad, a graduate and an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Pacific University College of Optometry spoke very highly of the program offered and how well they prepare their graduates to be successful in their own practices. While shadowing Dr. Hopstad it was impressive to watch his leadership, how he dealt with the diverse patients, and the expertise he held on all the ______ he attended to. Dr. _, whom I also shadowed, held the same professional expertise and abilities. As alumni they spoke highly about the program and the university sparking my interest to apply for acceptance. It was evident from my experiences and
A. What did you learn from reading your classmates' posts to "Blog #1: Re-Viewing the Past"?
I am doing my observation of my fifty hours’ observation at P.S 177, @295 in Queens Village Jamaica Queens, and being there I observed that the classroom was in order, the bulletin walls are filled with the student works. That being observed, the teacher gives them instruction of what are the expectation for the day, the student went to their desk and started unpacking their bag, then they seat down on their seats to wait for their breakfast. After they are finished eating and cleaning the desk, the teacher started the morning with get ready to learn, this where the students relax to start the day. This class is only twelve students class because there are special needs students, but there is one student that caught my attention. He is
The observation made me reflect and discover the child’s interests, I could assess his developmental levels and I have observed what strategies were being used to attain their goals. After the observation I reflected upon it and realised that I have learned a lot about their personalities and skills that they need to practice.
Everyday the class would go to their Specials class for 45 minute. Each day for the entire week, the students would go to different Specials class such as P.E., Music, Art, computer lab, and Science lab. The observation I had with Aileen during the Special class was when the class was in Science lab. Since the class is in Science lab, Aileen was being very observant and had kept her eyes on the Science teacher as she was explaining information about Science.
Respect and truth are essential parts of one’s quality of life. They provide an individual with worth and a purpose to keep living. In the absence of these, one quickly falls into depression and the only solution is to endeavour to reinstate these invaluable qualities. In his memoir, Night, Elie Wiesel demonstrates that when individuals face harrowing situations that strip them of their identity, they must struggle to restore honour and certainty by upholding their values concerning family, faith and memory. Elie, the protagonist, is a fifteen year old Jew fully committed to the Almighty God and wants to deepen his faith by learning Kabbalah. However, as he is shaken to the core by the evil in this world revealed by the Shoah, it promptly obliterates his faith and divides his family. Unfortunately, it is not until much later in his life that he is able to fully renew his dignity and truth by being a witness.
On Wednesday, December 23, 2015 I job shadowed Tara Woodhull for the job shadow part of my event. When I arrived at her store, I noticed immediately a stark difference between her work area and the work place I visited last year (SuperOne). The SuperOne work area I visited was bigger and had a lot more equipment. Also, there were other people available in the place to help. Tara had no assistant and did all of her decorating herself.
My shadowing experience with the Language Service Department was truly an incredible experience, because I was able to learn how vital language is to the health care system and its patients. In particular, my experience was enriched by witnessing how meaningful language is to the individual. I was also granted the opportunity to learn more about the hispanic culture. I was able to witness the strong sense of family and community, as mentioned in all Spanish courses. I was also able to learn about disparities in the health care system amongst pregnant hispanic patients. Additionally, I was able to apply class material to cases and procedures I observed.
When observing the teacher student interactions, it was interesting to see the personality of the four students come out. Student one seemed to be quiet when interacting with the teacher. She seemed to not give more than one or two word answers, normally yes or no. She didn’t seem to want the teacher help or to interact with the aide. Student two seemed to be the opposite of student one. While she stayed on topic, she gave elaborate and over detailed answers to the aide. She seemed to want the aide to only pay attention to her and wanted constant positive feedback from the aide. She seems to get upset when the aide starting helping the other children and would try to direct the attention back to herself. It almost be a sense of learned helplessness. Student three seemed to be a mix between student one and two. When the aide would
These observations lists contained developmental goals in different learning scales such as creative arts expression, language, literacy, nature & science and so on. There was a process to completing our observation list. The first time the student was observed was after the introduction of a new concept. The second time would consist of the completion of a different activity with the same concept and the third time was the student using this new concept by him/herself. Only then would we be able to indicate that the student had full understanding of the
