Taekwondo is a form of traditional, Korean martial arts. It is a discipline that strengthens both the mind and the body. Today, it has become a global sport that is practiced internationally. Taekwondo has been developing with the 5000-year long history of Korea, being called by several different names in the course. In Korea, Taekwondo began as a defense martial art called "Subak" or "Taekkyon," and developed as a way of training body and mind in the ancient kingdom of Koguryo, under the name of "Sunbae." In the Shilla period, it had become the backbone of Hwarangdo that aimed at producing leaders of the country.

To attain this permanent or lasting peace, one needs unity and discipline which comes from practicing Taekwondo. Otherwise, Taekwondo would be no different from street-fighting skills, which has no form to it and its only purpose is to defeat the enemy.
After doing Taekwondo for seven years, it has become a major part of my life. It is had made me who I am and it has given me the focus and drive to accomplish my goals. Taekwondo has increased my focus both when I am doing taekwondo and when I’m not, like school and I have noticed that my grades have remained great ever since I started tkd. Taekwondo has also increased my flexibility, seven years ago I would have never been able to do my split or kick as high as I do today, flexibility gives me a advantage in most things regarding sports or activities, like ice skating, which I really enjoy.
Taekwondo has taught me how to defend myself which is one of the most important things I have taken away from this, being a small girl I have to hit twice as strong in order to get the same amount of power as most. I have also gained confidence and self-respect through becoming stronger and more independent, which are traits that Taekwondo has instilled me.

Many years later, my parents finally agreed to send me to a Taekwondo class. I could eventually wear my Taekwondo suits, and tie the belt that is the symbol of the levels; I could sweat and try my best to challenge my limits both physically and mentally.

I hail from Kerala, a beautiful southern state in India, often known as ‘God’s own Country’. During my schooling, unlike other girls of my age, I found a passion in Taekwondo and was involved actively in it since the age of eleven. I joined medical school and soon realized the similarities between Taekwondo and medicine. Mastery of both requires passion, dedication and perseverance. I was the only student in my batch who completed the Taekwondo course and attained a black belt.
I started at a young age to begin my training for a black belt. It was a way for my parents to be sure I could protect myself from harm or danger. I spent my nights after school training to compete and reach the next belt. Months turned into years and finally I was close to getting my black belt. I woke up before school to practice and after school just so I was prepared. When I was training, we'd start with the basics and help the lower belt prepare for their test. After they were set, then the higher ranks were able to train. When I helped the lower belts, I'd start off slowly and repeat the training so they could remember it. There were younger students than I; therefore, I would create games or fun ways for the kids to remember. This kept
