Reaction paper of the film Take the Lead
Take the lead is based on a true story, the movie tells us of the struggle of a dance teacher, Pierre Dulain. It is the real story of a dance teacher who believed in the talent of a group of problem kids. This film not only gives us a fun and relaxation but it also gives us knowledge about modern dancing and model dancing. Not only that, the film gives us the morality as teacher. How relationship between teacher and student should be in school as well as in their personal encounter.

Pierre struggles against the prejudice and ignorance of the students, parents and other teachers, but wins his battle when the group accepts to compete in a ballroom dance contest. He teach with love and hope. What you sow you reap.

When it was time to retire from dancing, he started the National Dance Institute. This project enabled D’Amboise to influence his own students around the world. In the movie “hair spray” the choreographer and director do a great job explaining not only the history of dance but also a main historic fact. With the classic musical- style story the director is able to introduce a part of history in a fun exciting way through dance and music. The story tells us many different things as well as shows us how dance can bring people from different ethnicities and color together. We can deeply connect with the story if we can understand and experience with story line. The story begins with a girl by the name of “Tracy” who is crazy about singing and dancing the, “new groove”. She is different then the rest in many ways but pursues her dream as a dancer without allowing anything to stop her. She shows her enthusiasm for dancing and singing from the beginning of the movie to the end. The story shows us a part of the 60s when segregation was in place. The conflict that arises in “Seventh Grade” is in Victor’s mind. He tries to impress his crush, Tressa by speaking French. When he tries to speak French, his teacher knows he cannot, but does not say anything. Since he tried to speak French, he finds himself in a problem, because Tressa ask him to tutor her. The lesson begins with the Teacher using a remote to click through a series of scenes taking place between the Jumper and Good Samaritan, with the plot not turning out as one would expect. The first scene shown lacks conflict and does not allow for further plot; therefore the Teacher explains that this is not satisfying to the audience. The second scene also lacks conflict, by resolving too quickly, and the third scene is absurd with both characters using unnecessarily foul language that does not appeal to any kind of viewer. As the Teacher clicks through several more poorly constructed scenes the other two characters come to life and revolt which causes the Teacher to lose control. The true comedic events ensue when the Teacher battles with the other characters in order to regain control over the play. Surprisingly the Teacher is the one who becomes the victim to death, thereby creating an example of a well written play.
From kindergarten until high school, I was a member of the Jean Wolfmeyer School of Dance. Up to 5 days per week, I would be at the dance studio taking classes, rehearsing for shows, and helping out in the less advanced classes. Regardless of skill level, Jean never hesitated to speak the brutally honest truth about students’ performances and she never settled for anything less than perfection. In the movie Save the last dance the film explores various issues current in the United States as well as all over the world. The movie explores peer pressure especially in a black dominant school population. Themes of Violence, adolescent pride and interracial relationships were greatly represented in the film. Also it touches on early parenthood, pressures of a low income environment, racial status, racial stereotypes and prejudice as well as loyalty to friends. Psychologically the movie represents Memory, Learning, Thinking, Motivation and emotion, Development, Sex and gender as well as Social realm.
The Classroom shows all the issues in the school system which is caused by a leader that doesn’t know how to lead, effecting the teachers and students negatively. The fish roots from the head, the principle was constantly worrying about less important things, for example, making the students stand when he enters the room or during a meeting discussing the behavior of students he interrupts saying he wanted to discuss something more important, the coffee machine. He is supposed to be running a school and all he is worried about is coffee and the “respect” he receives when entering a room.
To find a true sense of belonging within a set world, one must have the courage to stay true to themselves. The protagonists in this film Scott and Fran gradually challenge and redefine the order of this community. Scott “the up and coming star” of the ballroom world becomes frustrated with only dancing the old traditional steps and wants permission to introduce his own kind of steps.
The school he attends when he is a little older is a school by any means, but there is great turmoil. Often the older boys pick on the younger ones and while this may be brought to the attention of the director (the principle, headmaster etc.) the older boys would be punished but it would be so overlooked that as soon as they were finished being punished, they would return from their beatings and give them back tenfold to the young boys who told on them. This section is actually one of my favorite parts.

Today I’ll be talking about a moral value that I have learned from the movie ‘Take the Lead’. The value that I learned is self-confidence when the polite ballroom dance instructor Pierre Dulaine sees a teenager vandalizing a car and on the next day he volunteers to teach dance to students to give value, dignity, trust and teamwork. Eventhough the teenagers who prefer hip-hop or rap, think it wasn’t a great idea but Dulaine catches the students' attention with a tango session and they started practicing ballroom dancing.
