Taking a Look at the Death Penalty

“The death penalty violates the right to life as proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the right to be free from cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment.” (The Ultimate Denial of Human Rights) in this world, no one has the right to take another human being’s life, every human being is entitled to life. According to Reggio, the death penalty started way back in chine in the 18th century, this was because to many crimes where being committed and so many people were being killed for no reason. The first death penalty act happened in Egypt where a, member of nobility was accused of committing a crime and he was killed with an ax. (Reggio). The death penalty has been around for a long time but it was really worse during the racisms’ times. The movie I have chosen to write about is “Race to Execution” it was director by Rachel Lyon, Rachel is an Emmy award winning movie producer. She has director more than 64 movies but the “Race to Execution” is one of her favorite movies. The movie was produced by Jim Lopes and Rachel Lyon and written by Christine Intagliata. Race to Execution is about capital punishment by focusing attention on race of jury as well as race of victim.
