Taliesin West was constructed in 1937 in a desert location in Arizona. It was the home for Wright until his death in 1959. Its design was a direct response to its dry landscape. Wright felt strongly about the atmosphere of the desert. He said: “Arizona needs its own architecture… Arizona’s long, low, sweeping lines, uptilting planes. Surface patterned after such abstraction in line and color as find 'realism' in the patterns of the rattlesnake, the Gila monster, the chameleon, and the saguaro, cholla or staghorn – or is it the other way around—are inspiration enough” (archdaily) Its function was for a place of residence, business and education. Similar to Fallingwater, materials for its construction were sourced locally resembling the harmonious

Numinbah Valley is an area and suburb approximately forty-eight kilometres south west of the Gold Coast, in south eastern Queensland, Australia. Numinbah Valley covers approximately 116 square kilometres. The area is in the south-east part of Queensland and is part of the Gold Coast Hinterland. Numinbah Valley is the upper catchment for the Nerang River. As the name suggests, Numinbah Valley is a valley, with several elevated areas in it (Figure 14 and 13). The valley is well preserved, with only 10 percent of the area having been cleared of vegetation. Only one major road runs through the valley, it being the Nerang-Murwillumbah road (there are a few other roads which run off from this one, but they are for private use).
Per Reporter: For the last 90 days the children have been living with their godmother (Trakenshia). Charlotte has been in Texas and does not want to care for the children. Trakenshia attempted to retrieve the children’s social security cards to enroll them in school. Trakenshia was successful with enrolling the children in North Panola schools. The social security department realized that the children were not with Charlotte and suspended the funds. Charlotte is originally from Memphis and has been using her cousin (Tamara’s) address to receive benefits. Latoya is diagnosed with ADHD and has been prescribed medication (unknown). Latoya needs her medicine to focus for school; however, she confirmed that Charlotte had been selling the pills.

A. Visitors (1850-1870) described the Northwest as “full of natives, no good for farming, no trees.”
The children of the Chumash also engaged in certain rites of passage into adulthood, and the mothers had rituals before giving birth. When a Chumashan mother began to experience labor she would dig a shallow hole in the ground, and then light a fire in the hole to make it warm. Finally, she would extinguish the fire right before birth and line the hole with grass to deliver the baby. After the baby was born, its nose was broken because that would make the child more attractive. For the transition into manhood the young boys would drink a hallucinogenic drink known as a tolache, while being supervised by the shaman where they would experience a vision and be given a guardian spirit (Sutton, 2012). Young girls would undergo a similar process with the addition of following food taboos on meat and salt when they first began to menstruate. Sutton (2012) states that at about 15 years of age girls would marry and at about age 18 boys would marry.
“I’ll stay here until the water comes up and float down with it when it does,” Mattie Randolph, a housewife from Eastern Tennessee told a TVA worker on his first visit to her family’s house. The TVA worker was there to buy her property which was scheduled to be submerged after the construction of the Norris Dam in 1936. The Randolph’s were one of three thousand families that were being forced to relocate in order to complete the project. Even though all of Mattie’s neighboring families had accepted government offers to buy their land, Mattie and her family were the only to refuse government purchase offers. This is a similar story to those that played out across Eastern Tennessee in the 30’s, 40’s as the newly formed TVA sought to transform
In the 19th century the U.S grew in size and power. After the Louisiana Purchase from France, which doubled the size of the country also opened up a bit better-known region to exploration and ultimate settlement. Soon, explorers were getting back from forays into the geographic region with stories of nice stretches of beauty and fertile land. That helped and encouraged the government and the people to move west and acquire more lands. Although the Western Expansion had a great effect on the Western Frontier which helped in forming railroads and helped the economy, but it had a huge effect on the Native People as they lost their lands and many died people

In Figure 2 the Southeast Transect is located in the south end of Marlatt Park, near the South Parking Circle. The transect starts west at elevation of 1280 feet and progresses to the east ending at an elevation of 1260 feet . Compared to the high starting points in the previous transects, the overall elevation is lower and the topography is more gentle. The transect starts in a relatively flat area and slopes gently to the east in the first few plots, where limestone is present. The slope increases in Plot 3 were the parent material changes to shale. The transect crosses the east creek and can be seen in Table 3. The soil types vary from Florence in Plots 1 and 2, Benfield in Plots 2 to 6, and 9, and Wymore-Kennebec complex in Plots 7 and 8.
I love Sioux Falls, SD for its diversity. I am a 1/8 Osage Indian. I always felt that South Dakota as a state tried to show the diversity of the Indian tribes. I do not know if my perception is correct or not. I like how you point out how libraries need to look at their demographics to look at programming and collection needs. I would think the Siouxland library system would have more programing that would include information about the local Indian tribes and more books about them because there are so many reservations in the state of South Dakota.
In 1887, Wright worked with Louis Sullivan in Chicago, a well-known architect of the time who also wanted to separate from European style, until 1893. After Wright had stopped working with Sullivan’s firm, he made what is considered his first masterpiece, his home in Oak Park, Illinois known as the Frank Lloyd Wright home and studio. This structure was also his first work designed with his “Prairie” style. This style involved single-story homes with many horizontal lines, spacious living areas, and many casement windows. They were built with nearby materials and the wood used was not painted, expressing natural beauty. Wright later designed many more of his works in this styles, such as the Robie House and Unity Temple. In later years, he designed more well-known buildings, such as Taliesin, his home in Wisconsin, and Fallingwater, a building built on a waterfall in Pennsylvania. Later, he built public buildings, for instance, the Monona Terrace Civic Center, the SC Johnson Wax Administration, and the Guggenheim Museum. Wright also designed Tokyo’s Imperial Hotel in 1915, which he stated was “earthquake-proof” and, later, ended up being the only building involved in the 1923 Japanese earthquake to remain unscathed. Wright had also designed Usonian houses, which were the predecessors of today’s ranch-style homes. These homes had natural heating and cooling, and included carports, which were invented by Wright. All in all, Wright designed more than 1,100 structures. Frank Lloyd Wright died on April 9th, 1959, at age 91.

Farming in the west was a challenge to most farmers. Exodusters were farmers that would escape to the west for share cropping, they would own their own portion of the farm where farmers were paid very little money for their time on the farm and would make just enough money to support their families. Farmers would also come together and have certain part or job on the farm to do what make money, the crops they were growing were almost as valuable to the farmers and they would trade the crops for money or other necessities. Most farming families had moved from the north to the west to grant farming land through the homestead act farmers would also travel to the west because there was little to no farming options in the north.
