Abstract Oranges and tangerines appear and taste similar. These two fruits have very many similarities including; size, taste, growing season, the area which they originated from, and more. While the two fruits are similar there are still many differences. Some of the differences between oranges and tangerines are; the amount of calories, carbs, fiber, the softness of the peel, and more (2015). Because of the differences in the two fruits they each have different benefits to the person eating them (Herrington). Regardless of the differences both are a good choice for eating.

Oranges are native fruit to Asia and have come to the United States over 400 years ago. From Asia oranges were moved to the Mediterranean area. At the same time citrus fruits were becoming valuable for medical reasons but also for the fruit’s taste. In the 1600’s the fruit became well known throughout Europe. As time went on the Spanish brought oranges to the United States (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica, 2017).
History of Tangerines Similarly to oranges, tangerines originated from Asia. Tangerines were grown in Japan and Asia for three thousand years before being brought to the United States. The tangerines were brought to the United States in the 1800’s. Since being brought to the United States tangerines grow well here in Arizona, California, Florida, and Texas. Both fruits are grown mainly in these states and have the same growing periods from November to January.
Growing of Oranges and Tangerines
Some of the similarities between oranges and tangerines is the states which the fruits are grown in and the season that the fruits are grown in. The growing process of the two fruits is similar. Like mentioned before where these fruits are grown, the season in which they are grown, and where the fruits originated from are similarities between oranges and tangerines. Along with these there are simple similarities which the two fruits have. One of the simple similarities shared by the two fruit is that both oranges and tangerines both have seeds.
