Target Behavior: Brianna’s “homework non-compliance” behavior was operationally defined as follows:
• When giving a homework assignment/task, Brianna does not complete all assigned work, and turns in assignments after they are due.
The following intervention was selected for Brianna’s behavior:
• A token economy was selected for Brianna to increase her homework completion. Brianna would be provided with one token (sticker) daily when she turns in all her homework completed on time to place on her chart. Brianna would not earn a token for the day when her homework is not completed on time. At the end of the week, Brianna can choose a prize from the prize list depending on her amount of tokens. Every Friday, Brianna will choose one preferred
Parent’s reported Nic often neglected to contribute to the upkeep of the family home as expected. Frequently, when instructed to participate in cleaning up after himself through maintaining his own possessions in his room rather than scattered throughout the house, he either ignored his parents, or responded that he would pick them up later. If pushed to complete the task immediately he argued, more frequently with his mother than father, but the arguing escalated to the point that parents removed themselves and Nic successfully evaded the task at hand. In all instances, parents removed demands and either collected the items themselves or directed the other children to do it for him; this served to further reinforce Nic’s escape behavior in the way of operant conditioning. Parent’s further report that while the other children actively engage in chore completion throughout the week, Nic does not as merely getting him to maintain his room is a source of contention in the family. Parents ultimately want Nic to engage in
Another possible problem could be she is struggling in school and unable to keep up with her peers.
Anna is a 30-year-old mother of Latino descent, who is a single mother of her daughter Elizabeth. Anna's husband and Elizabeth's father, John, was an officer in the U.S. Army, John died in the line of duty when Elizabeth was six. Anna and Elizabeth live in Rogers Arkansas, in a small two bedroom home. Anna is a single parent and works full-time as a Librarian. Anna depends on John's parents for help with Elizabeth, due to the face that Anna's family lives’ in Mexico. Anna has noticed some concerning behaviors about her daughter and has decided to take her to the local pediatrician, Dr. Johnson.
Sipple, disrupting the class, becoming defiant to authority, and physical and verbally lashing out to adults and classmates. Some internalizing behaviors she exhibited were being shy and crying when someone approached her. In my opinion, Sarah’s charge that the math work is boring should be taken seriously (How seriously should Sarah’s charge that the math work is boring be taken? Should the math work be accelerated for Sarah? What factors need to be taken into consideration before such a decision is made?)
When all the kids sigh and all the teachers slightly grumble, I can pinpoint who has just walked through the door. Some days she goes by queen, other days diva, but I just call her Isabella. Isabella is a third grader that attends Seminole Heights Elementary School. She has a reputation of stealing clay and mats during art time. She has even stolen money from her so called best friend Kelci and when asked why she stole it, her rationale was “she should have been paying attention.” She doesn’t limit her actions to the students, she also disrespects the Instructors art by touching it and even painting her work with-out her permission. I am speaking about a third grader. This is a child that should know better and do better. But yet, she acts nothing like any of her peers in the class. I contend that the Permissive nature of parents ultimately influenced Isabella to lack self-control (Influences on Self Control, pg.353).
I found these points to be important because it shows Rita had difficutly with speech when she was younger. Rita also has an average IQ, but is getting with Cs and Ds in class. Also, her PIAT-R scores are average or above average, except for several reading or writing categories. This indicates something is adversely effecting her educaitonal performance. I believe there is not enough information for Rita to qualify for services. For example, we do not know if Rita is having difficulty with speech and language as a ten year old. We also do not know if her auditory receptors are functioning properly or if Rita has a hearing
Laurie often misbehave due to not being able to perform actions that he wanted to perform, such as hitting the teacher for making him use red, instead of green, crayons. He continually yells at the teacher, indicating he does not want to work on the planned activities.
The first tier in Response to Intervention for Behavior services all students within the school system with approximately 80% of students needing no further intervention beyond this tier. In this tier, school-wide positive behavioral supports are provided to students to reduce inappropriate behaviors throughout the school. Several school-wide supports are provided in this tier including "rules, routines, and physical arrangements" (Florida's Positive Behavior Support Project, 2009, p. 6) that reduce/prevent initial occurrences of behaviors that have been deemed inappropriate. Before these supports can be implemented school staff members must develop them. After development staff members go through training on how to properly implement these
She often raises her voice and is defiant with my request. She has a hard time receiving constructive criticism and following the directions I give her. When I give her an assignment to do, she often fails to complete the tasks correctly or in a timely manner. She always says she was doing something else and unable to finish what I assigned to her. A couple of examples are…
Behavioral problems the students display include throwing themselves on the floor and throwing items. John exhibits these problems, and he also pushes his work away or he will push the paraprofessional when he does not get his way or when he feels defeated. Sara bites, slaps, kicks, and squeezes the hands of adults when they attempt to make her do her work and all she wants to do is use the iPad and play with her PowerPuff doll. Josie hits herself and bites her fingers when she desires something and she is not able to attain it. In addition, there are days that Josie will
After interviewing Landon, I knew that it would easy to think of a token economy that would work for him. I decided to do a school token economy instead of a home token economy because I think I will be able to use this in my classroom one day. Landon will earn one or two tickets, depending on the behavior he shows, every time he is caught by the teacher. For example, if the teacher catches Landon staying on task during work time, he will earn one ticket to put in his ticket box. I believe that once the other students see
Amy is a ten-year-old Caucasian female who lives with her parents and seventeen-year-old college student sister, Jen. No previous physical or mental health problems were noted. Her mother is a homeworker and father is an industrial flooring contractor who often works away from home. She has not been going to the school for two years and could be extremely resistant to anything relevant to school. Even though she is homeschooled, she does not study without displaying tantrum. Her mother has a difficulty in managing Amy’s resistant behavior and tantrums; therefore, they often engage in home chores instead of studying
Behavior in the classroom: Hailey Stewart is best friends with Emma and James. Hailey was home school for two year before she started to go to school she is a little older than the other children. She enjoys playing outside and learning new things. She does has a little bit of problems adjusting to school work and having a time limit on when she needs to turn in her classroom work, as well as not being the only one with question’s and can sometimes interrupts the other students when they are talking, other than that Hailey is a very good student. Her favorite subject is English and she also hates social studies, she thinks it is boring and there isn’t any reason to actually lean it.
The debate over whether marijuana should be legalized has long troubled many American citizens. There are many political aspects that have to be taken into account when making a big federal decision such as this. However, long before America was even an idea, many cultures had harnessed the plant, and used it for many primitive medical procedures. Within certain states it is legal to use marijuana for medical treatments, but this is a relatively new idea in the United States. However, marijuana was not always deemed an illegal substance and because of its inherent medical value should be legalized at the federal level.
