The public education system strives to prepare kids for the real world and to be good citizens who will succeed. However, when schools are focused on making sure we succeed they forget that not every kid is the same. Some learn better by themselves without distractions, others work better with groups or need a little extra help to understand what is being told. Every kid does not learn at the same pace. Therefore, schools should focus on guiding students and helping them learn in the way that works best for them, while also making sure that they understand/are prepared for the other ways of working/learning that they will encounter. Schools should first begin by being aware of what they are doing and what works and does not work for students.
Do we first look at the purpose of schools as preparing students for the future careers, turning students into lifelong learners always seeking knowledge as our universe changes, developing morally sound adults in a democratic society? There are many aspects of the educational purpose of schools that has evolved as our nation has grown and changed. When I think about the educational purpose of public schools today, I look at how do we help students learn how to seek information, apply skills, and gain resources to make sure their needs are met while being a productive member of their community and society. The old saying “You can’t teach an old dog a new trick” is far from the truth and the educational purpose of public schools should be related with how we shape learners to be able evolve with our ever-changing
Some people might like education, others might dread it and really don’t see a reason to continue learning about it. Today, for teachers and professors it’s easy to them to tell how the education they teach is effective for an individual student. As we know, education is being taught at school, home, and a little of both. For America today, most children attend preschool, kindergarten, elementary, middle school, high school, and college. Depending on the pupil's career choice, it can take up to 20 or more years completing their schooling system, Usually, during the middle and or high school years in America, professors teach you valid things pupils will be using in life.
In “Project Classroom Makeover” by Cathy Davidson, has many great ideas and facts about why should the school system should change. Although i may agree in some points as like the school system is working as a factory. I believe that changing some aspects like the way we learn things can and may keep the kids coming to school. For example, in my classes some of my classmates struggle the way the teacher teaches us so when they ask for my help i have tried different methods and it works. They start to understand instead of struggling but that’s because i didn’t choose to teach it the same way as the teacher. And with this experience i noticed that teaching the same way all the time won’t work students will be struggling because they learn in
School has been a part of the lives of billions of people for millennia. Educational systems are constantly evolving and taking on different forms throughout the world, yet schools across the globe seem to have held on to one similar purpose throughout the centuries. This purpose is to prepare young minds for success in the real world by building a foundation of knowledge in their student’s minds. While this is certainly a noble purpose, not all schools achieve this goal as successfully as they ought to. The high school in Little River, KS is just one example of how pure intentions can still lead to poor methods and thus a hampering of students potential. Put simply, the Little River school district should allow their high school students to
The purpose of public education is to enable students to be contributing members of society. Without it, the world would not be as we know it today in a very intelligent and complex society. Education is important in very many ways, probably too many to be listed. But I believe that among all other things that it allows students, by being educated, to live their lives in a way in which they can be successful in whatever they do. By learning about the trials and errors of those who came before us permits students to make well thought out decisions later on in their life. I personally hope to be able to better my students' lives by educating them about the overall curriculum and standards brought about
For the past few years in America, the people have seen how much education has decreased in the country. The people are not educated well enough in a specific subject, and that is the biggest problem in society. Students go to school five days a week, and they take some classes that honestly are not needed nor will be needed in the future. If someone wants to be a Psychiatrist, why do students need to know what X is in an Algebra 2 problem? Students should take the classes and courses needed to pursue the students wanted career and not just a class to take up their time and effort.
The education system in the United States has been a problem for some time now and it has yet been fixed. Of course there are somethings that cannot be changed overnight, but it is obvious that there hasn’t been any jurassic reform that the system desperately needs. The country needs to adapt to the student’s needs and attention to engage and connect with the students in the simplest way for them to learn and excel. What the country is doing currently is not getting the job done and there needs to be a change and it needs to happen
The main focus for more many school districts is increasing academic achievement while decreasing student suspension and expulsion. So many students are not able to gain the proper education needed because they are constantly in and out of school due several infractions that are against school policies.
The existing public education system in America was established when education was a low priority. As the demands for greater education grew, the public education system tried but failed to keep pace with those demands. The educational system must standardize education across America, raise the percentage of students who have mastered basic skills and teach students to understand the importance of learning about a wide variety of subjects.
I have discovered, at least with math, that I do remember some of the things I was taught in High School. Since I graduated almost 28 years ago, that's saying something. Even though I didn't have a lot of time due to work and travel, I found that I procrastinated a lot. Just because I still dreaded the assignments. The one thing that I wasn't really surprised about was that I still struggle with fractions. I had a hard time in grade school and have never leaped over that barrier. My advice to anyone taking MTH105 in the future is to not procrastinate, read the assignment all the way through. Also, do the practice questions and read very carefully what is required in the answer (that one has bit me more than once).
In her article “Harvard Survey Reveals Pessimism About K-12”, Michelle Molnar, a contributor for Education Week, states: “In a report released last week, the business school [Harvard] indicated that 47 percent of its alumni. . . saw little improvement in the K-12 education system.” Even though public education can have a positive influence, rising high school dropout rates, increasing juvenile crime, and the falling of American education’s global rating causes some parents to wonder if public education is truly working. Public education has negatively affected children.
Students are unique in their own way. In order to support individuality and continue conformity schools need to work on every individual with their own learning style.
In the competitive knowledge-based world of the twenty-first century, the education of America 's youth will be even more important than ever. More responsibility will be placed on schools because of the growing diversity in classrooms, languages, preparedness, motivation, and the dynamics of the future workplace. Schools also must assume more responsibility because of the increasing enrollment rate. Going into the 1996-1997 school year, there was an all-time high enrollment of 51.7 million students in public schools throughout the entire country (Good 6). Since there are an increasing amount of students and more materials that need to be taught, public schools are more important and have gained more responsibility now than at any previous time.
One common misconception made about the public school system is that public schools are built to prepare students for standardised tests, not real life situations. This is only partially true. The intention of the public
General collaboration with public schools will help individual students achieve these skills to facilitate the raising of standards to a better society. Attending public schools should have a positive impact for community growth and betterment but also the human development of the individuals attending. Education at home and expanding it at school are the foundation for developing respectable citizens. Parents need to stop thinking of school as a place to send their kids so they are in a safe place while they are at work. Teachers should stop seeing children as just a part of their job and get paid accordingly. Public schools can produce all types of young adults but it takes the support of the family and the efforts of all mature adults that come in contact with them to assist in the grooming and educating of well behaved, respectful and respected young adult citizens (Allaria 2011).
