Michael Jackson Michael Jackson is unquestionably one of the most well-known musical artists in music history. His musical achievements rightfully earned him the title of the “King of Pop”. Jackson began his musical career at a very young age with his four older brothers, and together they formed the band, The Jackson 5. They grew up in Gary, Indiana, in a lower middle-class family. The Jackson family was a large family of twelve, but they lived in just a small two-bedroom house. Jackson’s father was reportedly very strict and even abusive towards Michael. It became the best-selling album of all time both in the United States and worldwide selling for 65 million copies. Thriller hit another record which was staying at number one on the Billboard charts for thirty-seven weeks. He won seven Grammy awards and eight American Music Awards for the album. It was around this time when Jackson started incorporating the moonwalk, and other dance moves into his musical performances. These dance moves are still famous and well-known in present day.
His next album, Bad, did not do as well as its predecessor, Off the Wall, but still did remarkably well as it sold 30 to 45 million copies worldwide. Jackson was a phenomenon and won countless awards by this time, including even being named the White House’s Artist of the Decade by President George H.W. Bush. The album following Bad, was called Dangerous and Jackson signed an all-time high paying contract with Sony for 65 million dollars. Dangerous became platinum certified for seven times in the United States, and also sold 30 million copies worldwide.
