Due to the weak state our of economy over the past several years, many organizations and movements have surfaced in order to attempt to make a change to better our country. One of those organizations is the Tea Party and their movement. The Tea Party movement is an effective political force in our society because it is respectable, organized, and focused on common issues. According to the official website for the Tea Party movement, it was formed randomly in 2009 from “the reaction of the American people fiscally irresponsible actions of the federal government, misguided ‘stimulus’ spending, bailouts, and takeovers of private industry.” In an article for PBS from 2010, Dante Chinni writes that there were about 67,000 members…show more content…
One reason the Tea Party movement is an effective political force in our society is because it is respectable, meaning others take it more seriously than other political forces. Kim Geiger of the Los Angeles Times writes that sixty members of the House of Representatives are apart of the movement. She also states that the average net worth of the House of Representatives in 2010 was $755,000 and that the average net worth of the 60 Tea Party members in the House is $1.8 million. Not only are these members apart of Congress, which places them pretty high in how much respect they receive from others, but they are also very wealthy, which adds to their respect that much more. The Tea Party movement is also respectable because it has received praise from other political figures in society who are viewed as respectable. In an interview with Piers Morgan on CNN, Rudy Giuliani said the members of the Tea Party are respectable people (Nick Wing). In his article from the Huffington Post, Wing also says that Giuliani even endorsed a Tea Party member who was a Republican candidate for Senate in Florida. Although Giuliani may not be a member of the movement himself, it means something to others when they see such a political figure as the former Mayor endorsing and commending the Party.
