Teachers are there to educate the minds of the youth. “A teacher takes a hand, opens a hand, and touches a heart” by an unknown author is my favorite quote as a teacher. While interviewing two people I saw this quote portrayed in both, but in different ways. Both teachers had the same outcome, but one teacher was much stricter than the other. I have wanted to be a teacher all my life, however, that still doesn’t mean that I have no fears in the career of teaching in fact I have many fears. When interviewing Katie Bauer, from Brookfield Elementary, she made my fears real. One of the fears that I have always had in going into the career of teaching is will I be able to balance my personal life with school life. It is one of my biggest fears of becoming a teacher, especially when the time comes that God blesses me with children. Katie told me she spends about ten to twenty hours a week prepping outside of school plus the school day. That is about eight hours, five times a week. That is a lot of time that is taken up by grading, responding to students, and prepping for future lessons, and educating students. Katie Bauer is a fourth-grade teacher, a wife, and a mother of two young children with her oldest only at toddler age. I asked Katie if she ever felt guilty or had any regrets. She stated “it is definitely hard to manage, but I wouldn’t change it for the world, I love my kids and I love my students. There nothing else I would rather do” (Katie Bauer). She calmed my doubt a
Not everyone takes in consideration a teacher’s role in society, most people only see them as that teacher that doesn’t know my child, and yet give him a bad grade, but it is not true at all. Maybe centuries ago, teacher’s job was to make their students learn Math, English, and Science, but as mentioned, that was centuries ago. Today’s teachers do so much more than just teach a subject, they teach life, they listen to the student’s personal problems and help them find a solution, they want to make sure that the students fulfill their life, doing what they love, but most importantly, today’s teachers become our inspiration.
Even though I volunteered in different schools, I never had the opportunity to ask about the real feelings of a teacher. During the interview, I learned that there is more than just teaching in becoming a teacher. This is because she told me how one of her hesitation on becoming a teacher is the time one dedicates for the job. She told me that when one is teacher, one must prepare lesson plans, come to school early to prepare for the day, and even stay longer to grade papers. She said that her typical day starts at 7:30 am to prepare materials and school instruction starts from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm. Then, even though the class ends already, she needs to create lesson plans for the entire week. She said that all these things are part of a teacher’s job, but they do not get paid to do these things. Therefore, I learned that being a teacher is not easy because there are a lot of extra responsibilities beyond the job description and that being a teacher extend beyond the classroom. Additionally, her answer made me reflect on whether I want a job, where I have to work more than the “work hours.” However, despite this workload, what amazes me was when she said that if she could go back, she would still choose to be a teacher because of her passion to make a difference in the lives of the
Our teacher’s shape our worlds young people into adults. They can teach students more than what the parents can because they have more time to spend with the students. Many parents work full time and do not have the time to teach their children how to be good adults. There are also some parents who do not know how to be good adults and can not teach their children how to be good adults. I have seen many teachers at my school that would do anything to help a troubled student. Teachers can give the students their
Based on Plato's idea teachers should be like a man who left the cave and saw the real world and came back to take students' hands to see the real world. For the teachers, in order to be like that man you have an open mind, looking for a truth everywhere, and hard worker to help the students. To help students, teachers should teach them how to learn, think , and solve problems in the real life. It is not acceptable from the teachers to just give the students knowledge and ask them at the end of the school year. They should give them the key to joy the life. "Don't give me a fish, but teach me how to fish."
As a student, people deal with teachers for at least twelve to thirteen years of their life and not all of them are bad, but then again they are not all good either. Most teachers fall into three categories; the I Am Just Here For the Paycheck, the Shut Up I Hate Children, and the Holy Grail. Now it is understood that teachers have a hard job dealing with snot nose brats and even snottier parents, but sometimes a teacher has to over look all that and do the job to the best of the teachers ability, and some do a great job of that, but others scrap the bottom of their barrels everyday.
On the days that i was observing, 3 children Sam and Tom were playing with the number blocks and they were just talking about what type of bed they sleep in, and Sam said that he sleeps on a big bed and Tom was telling him no you sleep on a baby bed because you are younger. So they started to argue about it then a teacher step in just to check in with them. She gave them space to tell their story and guide to resolve the problem. Sam and Tom talked about it, after that they start playing with each other again. The role of the teachers is important in the classroom, despite the fact that they are there to “teach”, but instead of being teachers they act as a guide to help their students to increase their developmental skills. The teachers would participate during dramatic play or other activities in order to engage conversation and help them develop the social skill with peers and
Teachers are there to help young children find their way into success. They have a responsibility to shape lives of the young and impressionable children. Teachers are there to provide best advices and to educate their children's. A teacher in Scranton High School named Mrs.Gramigna was the best teacher I ever had. She was an English teacher that would take responsibility for students that are struggling in the English department. I come from an Asian family and even though I have lived in America for more than 6 years, I still have problems with English. I was struggling in Mrs.Gramigna’s class and she noticed that and she motivated me to learn vocabulary words when I go home everyday. That’s what I did and I soon started to figure out
As yet another school year draws near to an end, I find myself in awe of how wonderful my children’s teachers have been. They are my right hand and I could not do it without them. Their love and devotion to the growth and development of my babies never ceases to amaze me and for this, I could not be more grateful. I only wish that I could afford the opportunity to have my kids home with me, but unfortunately, the numbers just don’t add up. As I spend countless hours away from my children trying to make ends meet and keep a roof over our heads,
In conclusion, a teacher is not a force to be reckoned with and only the bravest of people would deal with such a force; these people must be prepared to live a life free of happiness and full of depression. They must put up with the constant mood swings of an educator and learn to live an old fashioned life. Most people are not brave and are reluctant, is the reason most teachers are
Teachers play a very important role in kids’ lives. It's hard work to be a teacher. If the teacher is good at their job it makes the students motivated to learn, if they’re a bad teacher it makes the students hate the subject and hate learning.
“Teacher’s change lives.” Most people would agree that this statement is true. A teacher has the responsibility of imparting knowledge to students, while having the opportunity to make a huge impact on each student’s life. To be truly successful and effective, a teacher must take the time to thoroughly consider his or her teaching philosophy. The following is a statement of my educational philosophy.
Although each work day has its set hours, teachers spend way more than the standard eight hours, working on school work. Being a teacher can at times keep you in the building well before or after the final bell rings working on grading papers and a long list of other things. During a typical work day, teacher’s schedules are jammed packed with grading, teaching and lesson planning. When becoming a teacher, the work follows you home no matter how far ahead you get on grading or lesson planning. “Teachers spend an average of 50 hours per week on instructional duties, including an average of 12 hours each week on non-compensated school-related activities such as grading papers, bus duty, and club advising.” (Association, 2002) Thinking about how the work will always follow you home and long work days than some might imagine, is it really worth it? Working an average of 50 hours a week and getting
At our local Mosque, my fellow peers and I go every Sunday to teach Arabic and religion. As a pre-k teacher, I am responsible for the education of my students. Short term influences that affect me are coming up with activities for them, and discovering new ways to keep my students engaged. Teaching challenges my college schedule, and I have to learn to balance my time as a college student and as a teacher. I need to be reliably available and present for every class. As a long-term influence, being a pre-k teacher helps me develop a variety of life skills. I learn responsibility and commitment as I continuously volunteer to go and teach. I acquire a significant amount of psychological stress from teaching. Balancing time is difficult, especially as my school workload
Teaching is one of the most demanding fields a person can go into. A teacher must have a strong understanding of their field and make sure they have personal standards and goals to live up to. Nobody wants to have surgery done by somebody who does not understand anatomy, nobody wants a house built by somebody who has never touched a hammer, and most certainly, nobody wants to be taught by somebody who does not have a strong grasp on their subject field. Students and parents want a teacher who is very capable in that field as a student. Aside from just academics, teachers must be good leaders to not only teach, but help lead their students through the jungle, that is the class’s curriculum. Through interpersonal communication and by using interpersonal skills teachers learn, students have a higher chance of success than when teachers do not possess these traits. Another part of the demand of teaching is you must fulfill all of your own obligations. A mix of grading papers, making tests, calling parents, attending meetings, and still having time for my family, requires lots of planning and staying on top of things. Between school, friends, volunteering, and working, I have many tasks all requiring a good amount of attention. I believe my good handling of this situation will help me down the road as a teacher. In this section I will share recent personal experiences I believe will help me be
For some reason or another certain students are drawn to particular teachers while other students are more fond of others. In my life I have studied under three memorable teachers. Teachers with which I was able to connect, to laugh, to share my misgivings. While I may have been close with each of these teachers, it is very clear, in retrospect, that each was very unique, and represented an entirely different class of teacher.
