Each role has its own set of standards set by the government which staff are expected to meet. The models of performance used include local and national guidelines for codes of practice by the department of education and Ofsted. Most settings meet the standards through a number of policies and procedures however it is important for staff to look through the standards relevant to their role to ensure they are working effectively. They must have an understanding of these policies and how they link to their own role. The National Occupational Standards (NOS) were developed to help improve the capacity and capability of the school workforce. These standards aim to reflect the working practice of staff and the wider range of support staff in the classroom. The NOS for teaching assistances cover things like: Supporting the teacher in planning activities; the way a TA is expected to do this is by offering suggestions, making sure there are adequate supplies and equipment to complete the learning objective and by offering feedback. The National Occupational Standards (NOS) are performance standards that specify what skills and knowledge a HLTA should have in order to perform in their role. NOS provide a valuable resource to schools that use them to assist in the creation of job descriptions and roles and responsibilities, as well as underpinning training, progression and supporting development needs of staff. They were developed by representatives and different employers in a variety of sectors within education. HLTAS can target the use of the national occupational standards in a variety of ways from supporting and assisting with the development of frameworks used for the organisation, promoting and supporting equal opportunities to ensuring confidentiality but to name a few. Other National occupational standards are applicable to HLTAS from roles outside of education for example self-assessment for competence and opportunities for professional development and improvement of skills all of these help staff and HLTAS be able to perform their role to a correct standard and increase their competency within their role.
As a teaching assistant/learning mentor, you are able to take more time with students to enable effective communication, whether this is one on one support or a small group. The students will benefit from this as they have been able to understand more comprehensively the task at hand, however if they do struggle with anything we can take the extra time with them to give them guidance which will help the student fulfil their learning potential.
It is essential to establish respectful and professional relationships with children and young people in the role of Teaching Assistant. There are certain strategies which enable such a valued and trusted relationship be established. A relationship in which a child trusts and respects their TA and feels comfortable in their company, allows the TA to offer a supportive and caring environment in which the child can learn and develop.
Although the class teacher is primarily responsible to plan, deliver and review all learning activities for the class, a teaching assistant can work alongside the teacher and make contributions that can improve the teachers plan, alter the delivery to make it more effective for pupil attainment and extend the teachers initial review. “Planning, teaching and evaluation follow a cycle which gives structure to the learning process” (Baker, B., Burnham, L., 2010) and is vital in my role as a teaching assistant. I aim to describe how I aide the teacher to plan and deliver lessons and how I give feedback to the teacher about individual pupils, in order for the teacher make improvements in her planning and to be able to target individual

I have developed a passion for working with children over the past few years. Even though my past work experience has not involved children I believe that I have a natural ability to connect with them. I am a very friendly person and passionate about helping others. Friends and family members trust me with their children and I have babysitted for them in the past. As a teacher’s assistant I’ll be able to play a hands-on role in child development. The role as a teacher assistant is important to me because I will be able to help the teachers and the children. As a person that likes to help others I will be able to take care of the smaller details, as the teacher dedicates their time on furthering the children’s education. I’ll also have the opportunity
My role as a teaching assistant is to take on tasks such as preparing the classroom for lessons and clearing up afterwards, which allow the teacher to concentrate on teaching. To support pupils with particular individual needs, sometimes my role is to work one to one, while others work in small groups or work with one of these groups. The teacher is not able to give every pupil individual attention, assistants provide essential support to the pupils and the lead teacher. My responsibilities also include:

Do not to leave confidential material lying around they must be secured in a locked cabinet. Line of reporting-only talk to authorized personal about confidential material. This confidentially can only be broken when a child is at real risk.
The teacher's role is to plan lessons, direct and assess pupils learning. A huge takeaway from the experience of being a TA definitely were the skills I used and developed over the semester. I had to learn or at least be proficient enough in the course material to be able to explain and assist other students with the content. Ensuring I know the content helps in the context of grading papers, and to the professor as far as knowing how and the material is taught in class. Going over the material in class alongside the other students was helpful, and taking the time to brush up on certain concepts in the book proved to be valuable as well. It was important for me to be able to be sure on my end that I was able to assist students in a way that promotes their success in class. With that being said, some things I realized are better left to the professor. If I am not able to answer something, I at the very least need to be able to redirect to some aspect of the book, guide
