Organizations today continue to grow using all the newest technological advancements. The use of technology can help mold the foundation for which a company is able to grow from, but it can also be the very cause of the same company’s demise. It is for that reason, that an organization should take appropriate actions to protect its Information Systems (IS) against any vulnerability. An information system is made up of many parts with each having their own areas of weakness. The best practice is to understand how each area is vulnerable, and adjust the protocols to limit the damages that could occur. Hardware Systems Hardware is the foundation to building any IS, without it there is no IS. “Hardware is an integral part of the IS infrastructure” (Valacich & Schneider, 2016). Hardware systems can be broken down into three types. These types are input, processing, and output technologies (Valacich & Schneider, 2016). Input technologies are the devices used to enter information into any computing device. Processing technologies are found inside of these devices, and can be thought of as the brains of the device. It is here that data input is translated into output. Output technologies are where the information is delivered to the user.
