SUMMARY
With the passage of time men has advanced in technology in fulfilling his needs and desires. After the mechanical evolution world is now living in evolution of Informational Technology. Mechanical evolution innovate means of transportation whereas Information Technology invented a new way of communication called Internet. Astoundingly communication can be done from anytime anyplace all over the world through internet. The number of people especially among young generations internet is gaining popularity exponentially. I aimed this research to understand its history, development, benefits to mankind and its role on communication. After the invention of computer in 1950, world got familiar with the concept of internet. Professor Kleinrock demonstrated sending of messages from University of California to Stanford Research Institute by using ARPANet (Advanced Research Project Agency Network). Advanced Research Project Agency (ARPA) developed and supported research projects in 1970 whose focus was on communication. In 1973 Robert Elliot ’Bob’ Kahn with Vint Cerf invented TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) / IP (Internet Protocol) which is still the heart of Communication protocol in Internet. In 1989 web technician created World Wide Web (WWW) and in 1990 it was opened for unlimited public use. Finally VOIP (Voice Over IP) was invented in 1990 and we are all enjoying the free calling software application on internet like Skype.

The popularity of Internet has become ubiquitous and pervasive all over the world. The Internet plays a pivotal role in all walks of human life and has improved the quality of people life and has invaded all sectors like Governmental Organizations, Science and Technology, Business World, Industry and Education. In 1969, the Internet was originated by US Department of Defense (DoD) and Advanced Research Project (ARPANET) using Network Control Program (NCP). Research on packet switching communication methodology resulted in inter-networking of networks in 1981, when the researchers in Great Britain and Norway tried to collaborate with the researchers in US using Internet Protocol (IP). Realizing the importance and advantages of IP, the Internet
Summary: this is a 6-page paper on the effects of technology and the WWW on culture, human and organizational values and communication.
In the year 2017, technology has advanced and sneaked into the lives of just about everyone. Technology can be found everywhere, at any time. The most common being cellphones. With the invention of cellphones and other devices, people have access to technology no matter what they are doing or where they may be. This brings up the question of whether or not technology is hurting the way people communicate. Journalists like Thomas Friedman, James Butler, and Steven Johnson seek to answer this question. It seems that the popular opinion is yes, that technology is impacting communication negatively. Technology is not hindering communication, but is only changing the way we communicate. Technology has improved communication in businesses, has connected people around the world, and has only replaced previous distractions such as the newspaper or radio.
The internet is the easier way for people to communicate with each other. It has made the world smaller by bringing people together everywhere and any time. This invention has important tools for people to contact and it has changed their way of communication in today busy world. In fact people are becoming totally dependent on the internet as a way of communication in their daily life, business and work. The limitation of old communication tools has made the use of internet for communication is wider all over the world .
Living in a globalized world has certainly altered our way of perceiving reality by breaking the distance barrier through technology and at the same time making everything, including changes, faster. An example of this is the speed in which relationships, especially between young people, start and end oftentimes mediated by communication technologies. In a matter of seconds, people located on opposite sides and hemispheres of the Earth connect with each other in a virtual space and create what is called a “friendship”, regardless of how close they really are.
How does technology affect our ability to communicate as a society? Because of how quickly social media technology is developing in our society, the topic is up for debate. Some argue that social media isn’t a valid method of communication because we can’t truly connect with one another on an individual basis, or that it fosters unhealthy socializing patterns. These arguments may have a bit of truth to them, but for the most part, social media has done wonders for our ability to communicate as a society. We are able to speak with people over long distances, we have access to important information at our fingertips, and we are provided with a neutral platform of self-expression. We may diminish our ability to fully connect, but what we gain from computer-mediated communication (CMC) vastly outweighs any drawbacks.
One can never deny that society’s cultural ideals have changed dramatically in the past decades. This is, in part, due to the changes in technological advances. These devices almost a complete necessity as of 2017, since, from personal experience, many professors require students to use technology to complete assignments and to turn them in. The past 10 years have also allowed for “sociable” machines, as Sherry Turkle, a Professor of Social Studies of Science and Technology at MIT, explains in her book Reclaiming Conversation: The Power of Talk in a Digital Age. Many machines today can be programmed to communicate or even provide services that a human being could do, only do so flawlessly. While these advantages can be seen as something that can only benefit people, Turkle explains that the reality of this phenomenon must be taken into deeper consideration when concerning how this affects people psychologically.
Let’s face it. The digital age is here and the way the majority of today’s society communicates has changed insurmountably. Today’s generation of teenagers have never known how to communicate any other way other than with the use of modern day technology. It was not all that long ago, that the main channels of communication were in the form of face to face contact between two people or perhaps a simple phone call using the actual land line in your home. If the need arose to communicate with someone a long distance away, this was done normally in the form of a hand written letter which was dropped off at the local post office ready to be sent to its’ destination. Over the years, there have been so many technological advancements that it has revolutionized the ways people use to communicate.
As technology advanced, I have learned to adapt and try the different platforms offered to communicate. Conflict can also arise when taking advantage of digital communication or when we fall into an addictive circle that alters our personality and that of those around us.
Internet is the network of interconnected devices communicating with each other. Communication via internet happens in the form of data packets. Message is divided into small packets of data which traverses through the network to reach the destination. Source is where the message originates, destination is the target, medium of travel is termed as the channel and the message itself is termed as content. Internet was started in 1960s by US defense in the form of ARPANET project. It grew exponentially over a span of 40 years and is ever growing. It was built on the foundation that connected nodes should be able to communicate with each other freely. Initially, medium of internet was telephone lines. Communication data was modulated and transmitted over telephone lines. It was After the introduction of broadband based internet services, data transmission speed and quality increased drastically. Advancement in technology gave power to internet service provides ISPs and government to inspect the data being transmitted. This gave rise to the argumentation of net neutrality.
The reliance on technology today has suspended meaningful face-to-face conversations. Emotion has been replaced with technology, and relationships have become less intimate and more controlled by the ability to text, email, and tweet. Instead of physically experiencing the world, people view places, read the news, and meet people virtually through a device rather than in person. People unconsciously avoid face-to-face conversions because technology gives them a quick and easier way to communicate. Such technological devices have opened many opportunities for people to access their work when they are no longer in the office and talk to loved ones who are in other countries. Although technology has its perks, it has restrained people from feeling emotion, focusing on their priorities, and realizing they are not controlled by their phones.
I am going to talk on Communication as the area of technological advancement. Technological advancement has really impacted on our mode and means of communication by making it easier and faster to communicate with one another.
In today’s world Internet has become one of the most important mediums of communication. It has become the lifeline of our survival. It has removed the entire social, economic and physical barrier and has immense effect on our day to day activity.
Technology has been a central topic of today’s society and is one of the most commonly used luxuries we have at this age. Yet the benefits and disadvantages have been through much debate over the years. “More technology or less?” one might ask themselves. However, when you look at the facts the answer is clearly less would benefit us all. When in a room with someone face to face interaction is key. One should not be felt separated by such blockades as phones. Technology makes us more alone due to not encouraging real friends, ruining the conversation, and because it takes away from the human aspect of life.
