Technology has altered our lifestyle and it is continuing to make changes. In fact, there is not one aspect of our life that technology has not touched. In this paper, I will discuss two areas where technology has made a significantly profound effect in the way we communicate; the Apple iPhone and civil air drones. I will begin this discussion with the iPhone. One of the greatest advancement in the information and communications technology industry over the last 10 years is the marriage of faster Internet services and the new line of touch screen phones. Ten years ago Apple was on everyone tongue. The Apple Computer Company announced the release of the very first iPhone in January of 2007. Apple's co-founder Steven Jobs presented the iPhone at their annual meeting. The touch-screen mobile phone has been in development since 2005 and with a development cost of over $150 million. AT&T, who was one of the nation's largest Internet provider, had exclusive selling rights to sell the phone at that time. At its launch, thousands of people lined up outside of AT&T's stores in anticipation of its release. Based on a Time Magazine's article, it initially cost about $600.00. Nevertheless, the price was not a hindrance for those "Techies" seeking to possess the latest technologically advanced phone. Within four months after its launch, a million plus phones were sold. This was a major communication device for my generation of Millennials and a far cry from the Palm Pilot
When Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone at the Macworld convention in January of 2007, a tidal change in the way users communicate with one another was unleashed. The phone, which combined the already popular attributes of an iPod with the traditional cell phone, was an instant success, selling millions of units even at the initially haughty price of $599 each (Vogelstein, 2008). The theory behind the creation of the phone was deceptively simple: combine an MP3 player with a Blackberry, camera, and regular cell phone operating on a sleek touch-screen controlled software system. Consumers were finally freed from carrying separate devices to perform all they tasks they now wanted to away from home. In one simple hand-held device they could take pictures, listen to music, play games, communicate with friends and family, and even surf the Internet. This one device changed the way that people began sharing information, allowing them to instantly access information anywhere in the world while also transmitting it just as quickly. The iPhone is now universally recognized and has become a cultural artifact in our times.
The first iPhone was created in 2007. When Apple released the iPhone it was a success. All of the Apple stores were flooded with people, many stores reported stock shortages. In the year 2007, 1.4 million iPhones were sold. In 2008, iPhone sales grew to more than 11.5. By the fiscal year of 2011, 18.65 million iPhones were sold worldwide. According to Olson from Forbes Magazine “Apple crushed expectations for its first quarter of fiscal 2015, selling a remarkable 74.6 million iPhones and earning $18 billion in net profit.” The iPhone set a new standard in the amount of cell phones sold.
The introduction of the iPhone took place on a stage in San-Francisco with a rock concert type ambiance; Steve Jobs made his introduction in his iconic jeans and black turtleneck shirt.[footnoteRef:13] A subdued look for a man so revolutionary. The product he released on that day not only changed the United States in its entirety, but it also reshaped communication across the globe. The Apple iPhone without question, was the first mainstream smartphone. It was designed to make life more at your fingertips. The iPhone, much like the Mac, was built around an intuitive design and a rather simple user interface. The iPhone was designed to be a revolutionary device that would be rather simple. The device included several main functions such as texting, calling, emailing, and browsing the internet. While all of these features have existed, they have never existed on a device that could be placed in a pocket. However, this is only the beginning of how the iPhone reshaped the social norms of America. [13: Imbimbo, Anthony. Steve Jobs: The Brilliant Mind behind Apple: The Brilliant Mind behind Apple. During the time no one has seen a phone released before that had so much new technology implanted in it. As Steve Jobs explained it, “The device was introduced as an iPod with a wider screen, controlled by touch instead of physical buttons. In short, it was a mobile phone and a device to communicate with the internet.” (“The History of the iPhone”) This is why the phone was so successful when it released in 2008.

“Every once in a while, a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything,” Steve Jobs said after the release of the iPhone. His company’s invention changed many things about our culture. In 2007, the Apple Company released the first iPhone which introduced the smartphone as we know it. Although many people believe iPhones have ruined the way young people communicate, most people feel it has changed communication for the better. Millions have been sold with eight years and the company continues to grow and improve its technology.
On June 29, 2007, Apple Inc. launched sales of the iPhone at Apple and AT&T stores across the country. Many hours earlier, enthusiastic customers lined up outside stores to get the first iPhone in their hands. The iPhone is more than just a breakthrough mobile-phone device. It is a strategy that may expand Apple's sphere of influence. Apple elegantly combined a mobile phone, mp3 player, and personal digital assistant (PDA) on the same machine characterized by its unique, innovative design.
The entry of the iPhone into the mobile industry was a risky venture. In 2007 when the iPhone was launched, the mobile phone industry was dominated by Motorola, Nokia and Samsung which commanded approximately 60 percent of the market share. Moreover, the products (phones) were also characterized by short product cycles of roughly six months. The Apple smartphones (iPhones), in 2007, which were mobiles built with multiple functionalities were only gaining popularity.
Apple is an innovator and producer of consumer electronics. The firm initially produced personal computers and software under the title of Apple Computer, Inc. In 2007, the CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs, announced that the company would be rebranded to simply Apple Inc. This move was an indication of Apple 's desire to shift from primarily manufacturing personal computers, to mobile phones and other consumer electronics. Apple also revolutionized digital music delivery and consumption through their iPod music players and iTunes online music store. Later, Jobs became more focused on mobile devices. He unveiled Apple’s new iPhone in January 2007 at the MacWorld Conference. Jobs described the iPhone as: “… a revolutionary and magical product that is literally five years ahead of any other mobile phone on the market today.” (Apple Press

Steve Jobs found Apple over 40 years ago; Jobs, along with his two friends Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. The three conceived the company, Apple Computer Inc, on April 1, 1976, in Job’s parent’s garage and from then on they would create a technological cultural phenomenon. Fast forward to January 9, 2007, and the first generation iPhone was released which revolutionized the smartphone as we know it today as it was the first smartphone to feature an adaptive touch screen display. The first generation iPhone had a 3.5-inch screen, was encased in metal and featured the trademark home button found on the bottom of the display. The first generation iPhone also featured an impressive 2-megapixel camera, had a 320x480 pixel display, 128 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage, iOS version 3.0, and was Wi-Fi capable. Not to mention, also connected to the iTunes Store, web browsing via Safari, email capabilities, and even included Google Maps (Kerris “Apple Reinvents”). However, by today’s standard the first generation iPhone is hardly impressive, but in 2007 the iPhone was something to get excited about, as it was the only phone at the time to have a touch screen display compared to the sea of plastic sliding phones such as the Nokia N95, flip phones such as the RAZR, and Blackberry’s (Segan). In many ways the first generation iPhone paved the way for many other smartphones and its specs became the industries standard for a smartphone. Steve Jobs made the iPhone into what it is today,
In January 2007 American multinational technology company Apple introduced a new smartphone with most revolutionary change in phone since it was invented. The change was so huge that it changed the whole world forever. They merged three different devices together and created a sophisticated tool for everyday use. There is no one who would not know what an iPhone is.
After iPhone was released in June 2007 with price and policy adjustments, Apple successfully increased their sales in the United States. However, they underwent some difficult times when the iPhone was released. In the beginning, initial sales were below market expectations. According to IMS Research, a leading provider to the electronics industry, Apple reported the launch numbers for the first two days of sales at 270,000 units. Apple¡¦s wireless network provider,
In 2003, smartphones were introduced into the market by competitors such as Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung. Within just 3 years after its introduction, 13+ million smartphones had been sold by primarily these large companies. Being late to the smart phone market was clearly an advantage for Apple. It allowed Apple to perfect its product and develop a unique product with features and a design unlike any other smart phone device on the market. This strategic advantage has certainly enabled Apple to grow leaps and bounds above its competitors.
