A hub and spoke network is when there is one big warehouse where all the imports and stock is delivered to. This can then be dispatched down the “spokes” to another hub which can then be delivered to another hub and so on. take this example:

Someone in Masterton orders a product online, the order is then sent to the main Office/Warehouse is Auckland. Auckland sends the order to Wellington, when Wellington receives the product, it forwards it on to the customer Masterton.

This system is good as it saves shipping costs. All orders of the Manawatu & Wairarapa can go through Wellington. The Auckland office can make one bulk shipment to the Wellington warehouse, this means fewer expensive long haul shipments, once Wellington receives the items, they can be sent on to the customer using cheaper short haul rates.
