For my research project, I have decided to do Ted Bundy. Ted Bundy was born on November 24, 1946. He was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but was born in Burlington, Vermont. Ted Bundy’s birth was a “secret shame”, as her parents were deeply religious. The parent’s did not want people to know that their daughter was unmarried and having a child, so her parents decided that when Ted was old enough, they would tell him that his mother was actually his sister. Whether it be Schizophrenia or a personality disorder, they all have at least one. Ted Bundy was diagnosed with the antisocial personality disorder and narcissistic personality disorder. (Independent Practitioner, 2007). Antisocial personality disorder is a pattern of disregarding or violating the rights of others without feeling guilt or remorse (American Psychiatric Association, 2000). Some of the early symptoms of having ASPD are having no no guilt towards things, being able to stay in a relationship by being charming, but it failing because they have an inability to sustain them, not “looking like a monster” as the person seems to be very charming, and having no respect towards other people. Bundy had all of the symptoms, but mainly these three stood out. Bundy was very shy as a child, but was also very sweet. When he was younger, he did show an unusual interest in knives and often stole things. As he grew up, he was able to stay in relationships, but was out of control obsessive. The girl he was very in love with said that at the beginning of the relationship was great, but as soon as it got further down the road, he started to get very clingy and needed to be by her wherever she went and made sure he always knew what she was doing. Bundy was also diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder. Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, and deep need for admiration and lack of empathy for others. (Mayo Clinic, 2014) Bundy was the called the classic narcissist. He would never admit to his crimes, as he thought nothing of them. Ted usually denied that he had a personality disorder, as most narcissists would do. They are very good at manipulating people. They think they can con anyone to believe them, which half of the time does work. Bundy did not really receive treatment, even though they did try. He was basically the same as anyone
