How to Live to be 100+ If you could live to be one hundred years old, or older, would you? Well there was a study, called the ‘Danish Twin Study”(1), that explained that only ten percent of the average persons lifespan depends on his or her genes. “The other ninety percent is dictated by our lifestyle.”(1) Right now there are four of these ‘Blue Zones”(1), which are areas around the world where people, who live this type of lifestyle, and live to the maximum of life has to offer, and a satisfying one at that. To wrap things up there is no pill to take, no diet to go on or program for living you decided to do for maybe a year or so. They live with a purpose for living, most of them do not have a word for retirement. They have plant based diet, they drink a little every day, they stay away from meat for the most part, and eat a lot of beans and nuts. “Then finally they connect with the people around them. They put family first, raise their children, watch after the elderly. They come from faith based communities, which all together adds about fourteen years on one life, if you do it weekly! Also who you associate with plays a part, if you hang around people who sit around all day eating and drinking, you will probably gain weight, the opposite is also true, if your friends are into bicycling, running, or walking you stand to stay trim. “There is no diet, never has one in all of history that worked for more than two percent of the population.”(11) People who make new year resolutions rarely stick to them. There is no pill as of yet that works. Longevity is a way of life, you are either born in to it, or start living a certain way very early in life and then continue on it for life. Also Demographics plays a part too. So if chose your friends carefully, pay attention to how they live their lives, because if you do, you just might help each other to live longer, fuller lives. With the advances in medical care, better health practices, improved nutrition, and other factors help people live longer. As long as older adults are following the correct measures, they can help counter the effects of aging because this stage here most people retire, they need to stay active and keep eating healthy foods. By not living actively can lead to his or her body shutting down, and may also lead to an early death. Many programs are available that older adults can join to
The gatekeepers in this instance are the seniors themselves. Daily habits, such as diet, home environment and exercise become part of our identity. Any suggestion to change these habits, especially coming from an outside source, is difficult to accept. Family members or other close friends are most often the one’s who can have the most impact in changing these habits and environment. Those administering the intervention and prevention strategies must be sensitive, and not coming in with an attitude of knowing what is best in order to be received well. (McKenzie, 2014, p.140)
If you can help you r heart, you can slow down aging. The heart has been for you ever since you were in your mother’s womb. After all those years of dealing with all the developments and adjusting to all those good and bad lifestyle practices, the heart can actually slow down over time. Some of us think that since they already have outgrown the bad habit, they think these vices would act like a vaccine that would allow them for immortality but they are absolutely wrong. These vices are actually speeding up their death. You should stop the bad habits and start the good ones as soon as possible to at least get some
A healthy lifestyle is probably the only anti aging secret you will ever need. Be sure to watch your diet, count your calories, and monitor your fat intake. people would disagree with some of his logic on how to reach 100 years old. In this case I look at my
Secrets to a Long and Healthy Life, in 2012 the resrearcher Dan Buettner traveled around the world to answer the question that riddle the doctors about why the people who lives in some part of world lives longer than others? Then he collected his researches and lessons and took them to USA.
First, we must acknowledge that no diet in the world can halt or slow the aging process. Aging is inevitable and food is not the elixir of life – although the type of food you choose can lengthen or shorten your life.
Everyday it is possible to open up an issue of “Men’s Fitness” or “Muscle and Fitness” or “Modern Woman” or “TIME” or any magazine for that matter, and find the “new and/or improved” way to lose weight, improve the quality of life, or extend your years working towards the other two goals. Almost all of the methods prescribed can work; some are exercise and some are diet. For the most part though, achieving diet or exercise goals requires one to have great discipline. It has been proven, by each of these diet deveopers, that the diets they prescribe will work if the individual will just manage his caloric intake.
What would you do if you could live until you are ninety -nine? Many have lived beyond that age. Lucky, you may think. Yet it is not at all about luck.
Living a LivFit Lifestyle is just that, a lifestyle. Forget trying to diet or thinking you "can't" eat certain foods. A minder of deprivation will get you nowhere fast. Rather, think of what you "get" to eat to shed fat and get in shape.
Marge Jetton was a 7th Day Adventist and her key to live long are her devotion to like read lyrics and bible and every morning telling answer her own question, which she keeps a positive attitude toward life. Marge doing a routine exercise in her apartment like walk about a mile around, make her bed, clean her bedroom and after breakfast, she doing a stationary bicycle ride and weight lifting. In the video How to Live to be One Hundred Plus the main goal is trying to find the optimal lifestyle of longevity and come up with a formula for longevity. Dan Buettner starts talking about three blue zones: Sardinia, Okinawa, and Loma Linda, CA. The first blue zone is in Sardinia, only up in the highlands with an area called the Nuoro province. This part of Sardinia has an oldest male society, where 102 year olds ride bikes to work and chop wood. Since the land is so infertile, people in this area are mostly shepherds, which means their exercise is regular low-intensity physical activity. Their diet is mostly plant based and consists of unleavened whole wheat bread called carta musica, cheese made from grass fed animals high in omega 3 fatty acids, and Cannonau, a wine with three times the level of polyphenols. In this society, age and knowledge is thought of very highly, and is celebrated through a centenarian of the month calendar. Keeping family around is also a big part of the culture and can add an extra 6 years of life expectancy, which is also known as the grandmother effect.
Death rates, have decreased significantly over the years due to many scientific breakthroughs in medicine. People today are living longer than they did 100 years ago. Or for lack of a better example, Back in the days of the Black Death, you were lucky to be alive in your forty’s. It’s unlikely for people to die at forty over a flu in present day America. However, some diseases, we have only begun to understand a little more. For example, cancer is a big threat to human longevity. According to Peter Crosta, in an article he wrote, “Cancer harms the body when altered cells divide uncontrollably to form lumps or masses of tissue called tumors” (2015). Treatments for cancer are not as effective as we would want them to be. Cancer treatments
The idea that we are in control of how we age is comforting and troublesome as the level of control is often varied. Numerous health promoting behaviors have been strongly associated with reduced age related health concerns and a higher quality of life. Refraining from smoking, active lifestyle choices, and frequent social participation all have health-promoting tendencies, traits like these could be considered highly available with few barriers to achieving their benefits. Meaning everyone should be able to improve there projected aging by engaging in such traits. However, not all factors are equally accessible education, gender, stress, diet, geographic location, and genes all greatly impact the course of aging. With most of those factors determined at birth or early life decision the consequences they have on aging is often not seen as a choice. Financial constraints can negatively impact diet and level of activity direct impacting BMI. This is a growing concern in Canada with a doubling of 60 -69 year-olds classified as obese since 1981 (Canadian Health Measures Survey). A high BMI
Would I want to live to be 100? That’s an interesting question that’s very hard for me to answer each time I think about how to answer it. So, with most things in life, there’s a good and a bad side to most situations. But for me, with this certain topic, I’m not going to lie, I’m torn between which side to take. Over the years I’ve experienced some details to support these two sides of this topic ranging from music all the way to videos I’ve seen on YouTube. With each thing that I’ve experienced I took everything I was exposed into perspective and it just never really left my mind. I even thought about these involvements throughout my everyday life, making questions about what if. What I have to share with you, the reader, are my
