One of the most rewarding and rich experiences I have had over my high school years, has been my time at The Collective, the Philbrook Museum's teen specific program. A large aspect of this program focuses on teen leadership within the museum, and the pinnacle of the program is a "First Friday" event hosted by the Collective teens. The entirety of this event is dreamed and lovingly created by the teens; and, while this gives us the opportunity to create virtually anything we want, it also means that a group of young creative people have to work together.
Due to this, I offered up my help to be a part of a leadership role within the planning of the event. I soon found myself working on the First Friday outside of our sessions, facilitating
So far, I have altered how meetings are conducted from last year so that the student administration has more control of communicating ideas to the members. Later in the year, I plan to incorporate additional volunteer opportunities and I want to have more group conversations with the members to hear their ideas and try to merge those ideas into positive changes that can be made. This leadership opportunity is starkly different from that of coordinating a 5k. Being the president of NHS has given me additional exposure to public speaking skills, decision making skills, proper ways to conduct meetings, and ways to present myself professionally. Despite their differences, these leadership opportunities have helped me advance myself in my journey to accomplish my goals. The skills I gained and refined from these opportunities will undoubtedly assist me when trying to procure grants, build connections, and become a research team leader.
As the fulltime art teacher at the Eagle Academy for Young Men (EAFYM) Bronx campus for the past three years, I am proud to have had a significant role as a lead advisor of two special extensions ELO programs: Eagles in Flight Saturday NYC Exploration Club for 6th & 7th graders and Artack for 7th-12th graders at the Bronx campus. These programs are designed to enhance the learning experience of at-risk youth. Unlike their wealthier counterparts, students who are socioeconomically challenged do not have expansive places to play after school or a long list of activities to go to. These programs attempt to address that deficit. This paper will specifically address the philosophical and practical foundation of the NYC Exploration Club.
Over the past few months as we participated with the “Big Brothers Big Sisters” program, we divided into small groups in order to focus on different aspects of the organization during this project. The project included three main groups: social media, public relations and group planning. The first group was responsible for social media around campus. The second group managed public relations, which made flyers and used other media resources to spread the word throughout the campus. The third and final group focused overall group planning with the kids. This included different activities and parties for the children. As a class we were to plan and coordinate two functions that included the Big Brothers Big
Teenagers, you can’t live with them and you can’t live without them as we have heard many times before. Teens are the future to come and we need to take advantage of reaching out to this special population and invest our time and energy in this vibrant generation. It is very important to have staff up to date on the latest new trends such as new resources that are available to help continue keeping strong teen services in our libraries. As quickly as new trends come and go we as staff members need to keep evaluating our teen services regularly. Teens are quick to question and judge the authenticity of individuals and are easy to walk away from an environment that makes them feel unwelcomed. Staff members need to create a mentor relationship
I was ecstatic when I discovered that the Nelson-Atkins had a job opening for teenagers to work as guides over the summer. As a life-long devotee of museums across the country and here in Kansas City, I never felt more perfect for a job.
At the beginning of the year I helped set up for the chapter banquet and helped do opening ceremonies with the conduct team. This was when I was elected chapter reporter.
During the implementation of the Midnight Madness Youth Development Program obstacles are inevitable, but can be avoided with the right contingency plans and preparation. As with any program that involves poverty-stricken citizens or at-risk youth, certain obstacles are expected to be present as some of them are due to the economic situation that these families are in.
Sports are healthy and great for a student to be playing and represent the school they go to. Sports are fun and I personally recommend people to play them; however, focus on education first. Most schools use a system where if a student is ineligible if he/she has an E in any class. If they are ineligible then they do not get to play in the sport they are in until the get a passing grade. This is a good system that schools use to make students get a passing grade in order for them to play. However, this system is used all the time with multiple students and its working, but it repeats all the time. Most students just want a passing grade, so if a student goes from an E to a D- it's a good thing, however, it will not make the school rank higher
¨If all of your friends jumped off of a bridge, would you too? Apparently the answer is yes.¨ Sloane is living in a world where teen suicide is the new craze. The slightest sign of depression could get her sent to The Program. ¨What is The Program,¨ you might ask. The Program is the only proven ¨cure” for the outbreak. It takes away the lingering depression by completely erasing any and all memories. The themes and internal conflicts throughout this entire book keeps it interesting and captivating.
The Nashville After Zone Alliance Professional Development for Youth Program Coordinators will include the following.
There are various delinquency prevention and community interventions used to combat juvenile crime. These measures have been put in place following the increase in unlawful conducts by the juveniles or underage offenders. That has in turn resulted in increased number of minors going to correctional facilities to serve time for having committed crime (Sieh, 2006). The first program is the Adolescent Diversion Project that revolves around the juvenile justice system in attending to the juvenile delinquents who need special treatment in serving their mandatory terms (Martin, 2005). The program primarily entails exposing the minor offenders to a formal juvenile justice process where they receive flexible sentences, they pay restitution to those
In this program, we would be try to help these young men become men. We will try our best to help these young men mature by, helping the balancing screen time to face-to-face time, internet time to disconnected time, sedentary time to active time, and trivial time to meaningful time. Also by playing indoor and outdoor games; which will encourage them to strategize, by having them make quick decisions while engaging socially. We are trying to to teach them to make mature decisions and help prepare this youth for the real world.
Pointing a gun at someone and pulling the trigger is okay if it’s not loaded right? No? Some KIDS would disagree with you. What some people keep asking about twain's article are “do his critiques about society and behaviors of people in them relate to those things of our society today?” and also if his advice given in his article “advice to youth” help benefit and relate to kids of today's society. In my opinion, I think his advice still relates perfectly with the society that I myself go day to day living in. I guess some people say other wise.
The program that this student has designed and will test will not be in a “corporate” type building, it will be conducted within a classroom inside of a public school. This program will be centered on the idea in which both teachers and school administrators come together in helping to truly create a better future through their students, our future. In this classroom volunteers, teachers and therapists will meet to discuss the performance of children in that school. These volunteers would also help collect food and distribute this food to the children in need and their families. This classroom would be the base for educating both teachers and school administrators about healthy boundary crossings, such as when is it appropriate
My interest to participate in the summer immersion program comes from the passion that I have for caring for the vulnerable populations and my inheriting love for helping others. From the beginning of my nursing education, providing healthcare to vulnerable populations in different settings healthcare has always been important to me. I believe access to quality healthcare is a right that every person should have. My belief of healthcare for everyone has been my motivation for pursuing a career as a nurse practitioner (NP). I would like the opportunity to fulfill healthcare needs in people who do not have access to healthcare in low in come communities and countries by providing them
