In modern-day society, there are numerous people who take pleasure in separating themselves from the typical standards of society; however, there are also people who feel uncomfortable expressing themselves in the own, distinctive ways. Because they feel this way, many adolescents believe that by camouflaging themselves into their peer’s behaviors and beliefs that they will fit in with social norm, accepted beliefs and behaviors in a social group or society, and the reason why they have this mentality, is because of the lack of confidence to express their ideas in their own unique ways. The belief that students and kids have to live up to social norms, are implemented on them by social influences, more specifically, their peers.

The typical American teenager goes through many stages of psychosocial change from the ages between 12 and 18. Adolescence is a difficult time for most because it is a huge transition time from being a child to becoming an adult. Many of these changes or challenges are so common that they are experienced by almost everyone. Some are brought on by physical changes in appearance and hormones while others are more psychological. Famous psychologist, Sigmund Freud, believed that a person’s biological activity will motivate their behavior and development. Choi wrote “ How Teenagers Find Themselves” to help explain the self-consciousness that teenagers have, and how it got there. In the text it says, “One way we build a sense of self is by reflecting on how others perceive us”. This evidence shows that he is telling us about how we create our own self-consciousness. A teen activist is a child or teen that speaks for what they feel is right. Teen activists are cheerful, dedicated, and ambitious. They strive to make a difference in the world, and do not give up, even when they are going through tough times. These inspirational people are Malala Yousafzai who speaks out for a girls’ education, Alex Lin who wants to reduce the amount of improperly disposed electronic waste, and Iqbal Masih, a boy who fights against child slavery. All three serve for a purpose, to make a positive change or difference in the world.

The song Never Be Like You is the teen anthem for teens today. The reason that it is the teen anthem for teens today is because the song talks about how she’s pushed away someone that loved her but now she’s realized she’s made a mistake and wants him back. It’s our teen anthem because it goes to show how much teens push away things that love them not even in a romantic way. Teens push away their parents even though all their parent is trying to do is help them be the best that they can but most teens misunderstand their love for hate and push them away. Some teens will eventually realize that their parents never meant any harm and forgive them in such as in the song when the singer begs for someone’s forgiveness when she realized pushing away
