Television has been around for many years, it has influenced every single American, and it has done this by affecting how we live our lives, start conversations with people, our actions towards things. Television is a good way to entertain ourselves but for as much as we do it as Americans it is not healthy for our brains and bodies. It's as if our eyes are glued to these machines, when we could be outside doing something active, making friends, getting more fit, and just simply socializing. A statistic says that the television is turned on for at least seven hours a day if not even more, and there are close to fifty million television sets turned on every night. Television is not healthy and we can stop by making our children be active and …show more content…
This includes educational programs and cartoons. A child can learn languages, math, to depend on him, take actions, work harder, how to reach goals and others. It shows children that you can do anything you put your mind to. Some famous children's programs portray heroes that are meant to save the world and this is of that children look up to and admire. They assume that if the strong, invincible heroes are around, the world is a safe place to be where they are free from harm. When really, they them understand these characters don't exist and can't save the world from those that would hurt them. Parents must teach their children that these people are not real and cannot actually do what they do, can't save the world, it is not possible for one person to save the world by doing everything at once unless they have others by their side. Television shows such as these also can make children scared too. They may be scared of the weird looking, powerful villains. We must teach children that all villains are not scary, powerful or weird looking but they do try to fool people, whether you are young or …show more content…

Television has had large impacts on American society once it became widely available, which occurred during the 1950s. Most American households owned a television. The creation of news outlets on television led to the American public to be exposed much that they wouldn’t ever have been exposed to without. There were no restrictions on the device yet for what they could or couldn’t show. Television would go on to create the largest impacts on American society, impacts that even continue today. Commercials became commonplace for the public, Civil rights would gain tons of support, and television would be one of the leading causes that attributed to the United States loss of the Vietnam War.
Television during this time greatly shaped American culture. Televisions were affordable and middle class America began to invest in them. The technology developed which allowed the networks- NBC, CBS and ABC, to broadcast TV in real time. The moment was realized during the 1952 presidential election. Broadcasters were able to show the Democratic and Republican conventions live. This was important because rural America was able to see in real time Dwight Eisenhower and Adlai Stevenson running against each other.
What role does television play in society? For decades we have seen many parts of our world rapidly going through changes in technology. Today’s society has been transformed by means of communication and the available information through mass media. Most Americans rely on television for news, sports, and entertainment. Television is just one of the many examples of how technology has changed our lives. Since the invention of the television in the early 1900’s, it has played a very important role in our lives. Having a television set in the home has become very essential in today’s society. We depend on it to entertain us with its sitcoms and to inform us about current world issues. The
Television has been influential in United States presidential elections since the 1960s. It has affected the American culture, the way people choose their candidates and how important politics is. While many could think that television has helped to make politics better and more accessible, it actually has made it become more irrelevant. Television has made candidates into celebrities, influencing them to pursue images instead of issues.
1938 was the beginning of television. E.B. White said “I believe TV is going to be the test of the modern world, and in this new opportunity to see beyond the range of our vision, we shall discover either a new and unbearable disturbance of the general peace or a saving radiance in the sky. We shall stand or fall by TV, of that I am quite sure." We are now living in an age of electronics. Ninety-seven percent of all American homes have at least one TV (Why I do not have a TV?). Not just that, but most homes also contain laptops, tablets, and smartphones which allow additional viewing of media. Television started as an experiment and has now become a franchise. Even though that may seem like an achievement, as E.B White said “we shall discover either a new and unbearable disturbance of the general peace or a saving radiance in the sky”, and I personally feel that television is a disturbance to us all.
In modern day United States, the media is a huge pool of information that is always apparent. Almost every household in America has a television; hundreds of channels on the television are mainly news, local or national such as Good morning Colorado, Good morning America, and World News Tonight, even talk shows such as Late Night w/Jimmy Fallon are fueled by the media.
Since the 1960’s Television has become a fundamental criterion in political presidential races. Television, without a doubt is very influential in presidential races, since it is more accessible to the American people, however in doing so, it has made elections unfair. While others say it is positive because candidates have a larger platform to voice their policies, I believe it is not since image has become more important rather than stances on how the nation will be ruled.
Television is one of the most popular ways to consume media. However, television wasn’t always the way it is today. Many changes took place in the television industry during the 1980s. Some of the important changes that took place in the 1980s were the new types of programming, the increase in the popularity of cable television, and new technology that was invented such as the remote control. Television had a huge effect on society through the way if affected the ways children could be educated and what people watched. It impacted technology through changes in how people watched television and what people could record and watch on television. It also had an enormous effect on the economy through changes in competition in the television industry and how musicians and their music could be made popular. Television in America in the 1980s affected society, technology, and the economy.
Back in the 1920s people had receive news and entertainment through the radio, which then in turn out-shined newspapers and magazines. Now day’s social media sites have become the most popular form to get the news and information. The biggest tool in the media that generates revenue by the millions every day, is advertising. The media has its way of showing us constructive information when it comes to news channels, travel and other educational shows. Kids benefit from watching these, since it can boost self-esteem, heighten interest levels in a particular subject, or encourage them to ask relevant questions.
Television has been apart of america's lifestyle for about 75 years, but there are still people who discredit it; think its a waste of time and useless. However I believe that television and its programming has an overall value to it.Its ability to entertain, teach, and relax the viewer (depending on the viewer interest and programming) gives an improvement to the world today.
WIth the invention and the increased popularity of the Tv came new issues for the American people. One of the most concerning for the people then and now is that the youth of that generation and this generation were losing social skills and valued their education less. Kids spent more time watching television and less time reading and writing. Grades were not the only thing decreasing in the lives of the youths. Kids stop going places and doing activities outside which, over time, weakened kids muscular build and physical condition. Not only was their muscular build affected but there eye sight was diminished. These problems are still relevant today. People stay inside rather than go outside and be active. The Tv allows people to be lazy, directly affecting other aspects of their life like physical and mental health.
Television is the mainstream of our culture. Violence on television has been a topic of conflict since before 1950. There have been repeated debates on how to protect children from the harmful effects of violence on television. Television is one form of modern media that influences the everyday lives of people. Televised violence has a major effect on how children perceive the world and how they behave. "American television has become the most violent in the world. It is for this reason why researchers have focused their attention toward television violence" (Cantor & Hoffner 424-4-25). Children enjoy watching television and now with the increased technology of cable and movie
Can you imagine the actual number of people who watch T.V.? People spend more time before the television, than any other thing. Nowadays, even children, to be more specific, toddlers spend most of their time watching T.V. Shouldn?t they be playing with their toys inside or outside, playing in the yard, going to the park for a walk or to play on the swings and slides? Don?t you remember when you were young when your parents took you to the park? All kids went to the park, but nowadays, the park has been substituted with the television and video games (for youth). Maybe this is also a reason why many of our children are obese. Because the television producers have created television show
On average, an american over the age of two watches around 34 hours of television every week, which calculates to about 5 hours every day. If the average person sleeps around 8 hours a night, and goes to work or school for 8 hours a well, that leaves only 8 hours left in a person's day for whatever else. So if someone watches 5 hours of television in that same day, there are only 4 hours left over at the end of the night., and 4 hours is not a lot of time when you think of all the things that a person has to do in a day. Of course we are talking about averages here, but there is no denying that there is a major issue with excessive television watching in the united states today. Watching television has become a bad habit for most Americans. It is common that if you walk into someone's home in the U.S,. their t.v. is almost always on. Regardless of if there is even a show they want to watch or if they have other more important things to do, turn it on. While they might not realize it, it has become such a habit for most people to turn on the television console when they get home. It is this mindless watching that is most harmful to a person's life, but the act of watching television in general has no important purpose. Watching television is a waste of time because it is unproductive, it causes people to be inactive, and individuals can lose many hours of their day that they could be using to do more important things by watching television, due to its addictive qualities.
Television is a big part of today’s society. Everybody watches television, including the children. There is a potential problem with letting children watch television. Ask this question, would someone let their own child watch some of the programming that they watch, too? Some of these programs are intended for the adult generation, not young children. Violence has a major role in television these days. Letting children watch this violence could corrupt their minds and eventually lead to bad behavior. There needs to be a limitation on the types of television programming that parents let their children watch, because violence in television can negatively affect children.
