Anthropologist Margaret Mead addressed the differences in temperament found between men and women in her book Sex and Temperament in Three Primitive Societies (1935). In this study she concluded that sex has no bearing on social traits and the temperament of an individual. Her research looked at whether masculine or feminine traits are innate or learned. She also questioned whether men and women differ because of nature (heredity) or nurture (socialization). She concludes that cultural conditioning is more important than biology in shaping the behavior of women and men. The observed differences in temperament between men and women are not a function of their biological differences. Rather, they result from differences in the socialization

What is temperaments and how is it formed? Temperament is the way a person or in this matter a child or infant would behave or react to an event or their environment (Cook & Cook, 2014). A temperament is formed by nature and nurture, all thought an infant is born with an “innate tendency” the temperament will form as the infant parents reinforce this temperament (Cook & Cook, 2014). Some infants are born more sociable, and others might be shy and even afraid of most things (Cook & Cook, 2014). Everyone needs to feel accepted, and children are not far behind, is important they feel accepted even if their temperament “isn’t easy to handle” or just a breeze temperament (Zerotothree, 2010). A child’s temperament and personality can be a something they have inherited from the infants’ parents, but the environment where the infant grows is just as important as the genetics (Cook &
After taking the Discerning Your Personality Shape Quiz, it concluded that I was a circle. Honestly, I was shocked how accuracy some of the information was. The main one being it that as Circle’s we smile a lot. While I might not seem like that in the classroom, outside of the school this is me. Everyone at work and most of my family members always call me smiley. “I often get remarks like don’t you ever stop smiling?” Or “Can you just be mad for once?” Another thing that this test pointed out is that I enjoy working with groups and that I am a people person. I believe that this is accurate because with nursing you have to be a people person and also have to empathize with your patients. Teamwork is a huge part of nursing because we
Based on the Keirsey Temperament Sorter, my type of temperament was ISFJ. According to Kendra Cherry this letters stand for introverted, sensing, feeling, and judging (n.d, para.1). Keirsey.com puts this four letters together and defines it as The Protectors which would be one of the 16 personality types. The protectors make about ten percent of the population and their “primary interest is in the safety and security of those they care about - their family, their circle of friends, their students, their patients, their boss, their fellow-workers, or their employees (Guardian Portrait of the Protector (ISFJ), n.d, para 1).
The four temperaments identified by the Keirsey Temperament Sorter are guardians, idealists, artisans, and rationals. Guardians are called concrete cooperators and are usually focused on their jobs and responsibilities. People with this temperament emphasize the importance of following rules, respecting others, and obeying laws. The idealist are abstract cooperators who talk a lot about their hopes, imaginations, and dreams. Idealists focus on ways to achieve their goals while complying with their moral standards. Artisans, concrete utilitarians, are very focused on things right here and right now. Artisans love seeing things right in front of them instead of imagining and will do almost anything to reach satisfaction, even if it is not in accord with rules or ethics. Finally, rationalists, also called abstract utilitarians, focus on problems and solutions. They try to be efficient when achieving their goals, no matter the consequence.
I love personality tests and through the years I have taken many. I took this test at school and got the debater, this would be the first for this personality to show, its usually the messenger/campaigner, along with the entertainer, logician, or mediator. I am odd I enjoy both people and solitude therefore depending on my situation I will have an extrovert personality and/or an Introvert personality, the TED talk you showed talks about Ambiverts, I will have to look into this. The DISC site reinforced the Ambivert theory with giving me a 50% Extroversion on the work values test. This paper is about teamwork so I took the team test as well, that gave me a
The term personality is used to describe a representative of a person’s patterns in behavior, ways of thinking and feeling, and social traits. The American Psychology Association states that the study of personality is to understand the individual differences in personality characteristics as well as understanding the different parts of one’s personality that contribute to their whole self (Kazdin, 2000). One form of personality assessment is categorized as structured, also known as objective assessment. Objective assessment is a standardized self- report measure that typically comes in a forced- answer format (Hays, p. 256). This type of personality assessments helps clinicians gather data that reveals a person’s specific personality traits
While being here at Mid-America Christian University and taking classes I have had the pleasure of taking this test more than once and each time my personality seems to have changed. The type of personality which was generated from this Jung Typology personality test identified me as being and ISFJ. It showed that I am an ISFJ Introvert (22%) Sensing (3%) Feeling (9%) Judging (56%). This assessment in looking at the results is a fairly accurate assessment of my personality. The personality type which is most consistence with my perception of myself would be that of being an “Introvert” which showed a 22%.
The big five project personality test results are based on research to describe the five dimensions of human personality (big five). The five-big personality test is Open-Mindedness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Negative Emotionally (OCEAN). The OCEAN five personality test describe strengths and weaknesses that align with my personality. Thus the OCEAN results are based on percentile, the higher the percentile is considered strengths and the lower percentile represents weakness. My strengths are open-mindedness, conscientiousness, and extraversion. My weakness is agreeableness and negative emotions. The findings of my OCEAN test results below conclude:
The careers listed in my personality assessment were psychologist, actor, teacher, and counselor and computer specialist. None of those interest me that much besides actor but I’d rather be a vet than an actor.
These days personality trait test is potentially a valuable tool in recruiting and personal evaluation. It is trying to predict work performance in different configurations. Scientists have long been consumed in connections between personality and work performance which they define it as part of human resources management. that refers to whether a person performs their job well, With the development of personality in the field of psychology, organizations realize that employee personality that impact how individuals think, feel and act on and off the job are difficult to change. Instead of displacing all the current concepts, the Big Five Personality Trait design works multipurpose because it is able to signify various personality feature
Before dipping a bit deeper into my own personality test named the big five personality test, I like to understand more about the concept of these evaluations. Personality tests are used in various ways and for several reasons. The spectrum of participate range from fun and humor to evaluations for professional and behavior perspectives. Many of these personality tests out there have an entertainment purpose only and have little scientifically value.
Basing from the various theories and principles of the 8 psychologists being discussed, the following are my self – assessments:
The behavior of a person, and hence the society, is largely determined by the personality of such a person. Personality is very instrumental in building a person’s character that is very deterministic in defining how people relate to one another in a society. There exists some great differences on how Americans interrelate to one another and how the Chinese interrelate to one another.
