The Tempest a violent windy storm created by Prospero, Duke of Milan, for revenge to those who betrayed him. The Tempest was William Shakespeare's last play written in 1610. Prospero the major character gets revenge setting in a mysterious island. Prospero develops throughout The Tempest. This can be seen through magic, being a father, and his relationship with Ariel.

In the beginning of the The Tempest Prospero uses magic as revenge then decides to give it up by the end of the play. He created the storm on the ship using his magic but did not killed the ones on the vessel. As this happens Miranda, Prospero's daughter, starts to worry, “ O, I have suffered/ With those that I saw suffer! A brave vessel,/ who had, no doubt, some noble creature in her,/ Dashed all to pieces!...” (1.2.5). This quote shows how Prospero made his daughter worry cause of his magic. Another reason, he gives up magic as a forgiveness, Prospero gives up magic by quoting in 5.1.61-62 “ And deeper than did ever plummet sound/ I’ll drown my book.” This quote demonstrates how Prospero decide to give up magic. One example is giving his blessing to Ferdinandt to marry Miranda. He gaved Miranda to Ferdinand as a gift of honor, “ then as my gift and thine own acquisition/ Worthily purchased take my daughter.” (4.1.14-15). This quote shows how Prospero gave his blessing to Ferdinand and help him grow as a father. Another example is he does not allow for Ferdinand to take virginity only after the wedding. If done before the ceremony she would be in shame and possibly killed. A quote in 4.1.16-19 be in view as Ferdinand breaks Miranda's virgin-knot as they will be in hate, “ If thou dost break her virgin-knot before/All sanctimonious ceremonies may… but barren hate.” This quote shows Prospero loves his daughter truly much.
