Sexual infidelity is demonstrated through Charlie’s mother Ruth, who has an affair with the local policeman. Before Laura died she had wrote a letter to Jasper informing him how on the nights he did not go up to her window her father barged into her room screaming and hitting her, “my father came to my door and he wasn’t gentle and he wasn’t kind”. She could not take the pain anymore and as Eliza recounts the story to Jasper and Charlie, slow eerie music begins to play in the background. The film shows how on the dark gloomy night Laura climbed the tree and sat there until she dropped. The director uses front on shots with a dark contrast to add to the misery of the event. Another example of sexual abuse is when Laura’s beaten body hangs from a tree limp and lifeless. Fast eerie music begins to play and a front on shot focusing on a branch with Laura’s hanging body in the background giving a sense of mystery to the viewer. At the end of the film the letter Laura wrote to Jasper shows that Laura’s death was connected to the sexual abuse from her
She pulls her scarlet coat closer wintry wind pushes by. Her delicate features scrunch up in discomfort as the bitter air pricks skin. Maria squints her radiant, jade eyes at the multitudinous papers posted on the wall and sees the multiple reports of missing people. As she warily strolls further down, she notices a large chalkboard covered with an innumerable amount of names. There is space beside the name Alma, and Maria furrows her eyebrows in confusion while searching for a writing tool. Her fingers desperately dig into the snow and uncover a small piece of white chalk. She scribbles her name down, and as she turns around her eyes find a doll that looks identical to her resting within the shop. Her emerald-colored eyes widen like saucers as she inspects the doll. The urge to go to the doll burns bright inside her, as if she is a moth to the flame. She looks at the oddly shaped door, her stomach churning in suspicion. The door is jammed and she gives it one final push with her shoulder, turning around in disappointment. The door opens to reveal her look alike, within her reach! Maria darts towards the doll, but not before nearly tripping over a moving object. Her breathing grows ragged as the doll heads over to the door, its entryway shutting. Her eyes slowly move back to the center table, where the doll no longer stands. Maria's green orbs finally rest on the doll. While debating whether

After deep thought and an hour of wasted time consisting of snapchatting and laying in various parts of my room, Lily suggests that we go down to The Dollar Tree and get some funny, random toys to quench our desire to do something, anything! I lived on the corner of Lindsay and Brown and the dollar store was located on Lindsay and University, so the mile distance was a short, doable journey. On our way back, our new-bought silly string in hand, Lily and I ran ahead of the three others that accompanied us, and we headed back to my house. When we arrived home, we hid behind the pillars and patiently waited for the others’ return. As we could hear their voices morph from a slight mumble into a real conversation, we jumped out and surprise attacked the girls with a silly string invasion. What Lily and I thought to be a harmless, funny act, really upset the three of them, especially Rachel. They would not come inside my house and insisted we go away from them. As me and Lily now sit in my room laughing and trying to forget about the drama that was on the rise, I began to hear scurrying noises downstairs accompanied by “oh my gosh” and “she’s gonna be so mad”. I walked out of my room to find Rachel covering my house with the purple slime she bought at The Dollar Tree. Everywhere I looked, it was there: rubbed into the hallway carpet, spread down the walls, down the laundry shoot, on the towels, and in the refrigerator, as if it were rapidly multiplying throughout my house. It was something out of a cartoon and I couldn’t believe this was actually happening. I know we were young and immature, but this took it to a new level, and I couldn’t contain my anger. Tears automatically came running down my face as I knew I’d be dead when my parents came home. “Get out of

However, the syntax used in the first couple sentences show that she her mind had not kicked into gear yet. She says, “Frankie pointed to a chair opposite him. I sat.” (Simon). Once she sits down, she begins to analyze every move he made. With watchful eyes she takes a couple sentences just to describe the action of him unwrapping a piece of gum and attempting to throw the wrapper in the trash across the room. She starts, “He peeled the paper from a stick of Juicy Fruit… ‘Missed,’ he said, as it hit the side and fell on the floor.” (Simon). The important part of that process is where he misses. That brings him back down to earth and by analyzing his actions, she realizes he is only

The women take a good look at the quilt, and notice how one of the sections is very sloppy and ?looks as if she doesn't know what she was about.? This section is very different from all of the other sections, and the women infer that Mrs. Wright was nervous when she was sewing that piece. They begin to wonder what would make Mrs. Wright so uneasy that she would start sewing carelessly.
