According to a Kaiser Foundation study conducted in 2010 children between the ages of eight and eighteen spend approximately 7 hours and 30 minutes a day of digital media. Even today the effects digital media has had on culture can be observed through the growing sensitivity and tolerance regarding race, gender, and sexual orientation. Through technology children and adults have been exposed to a multitude of different lifestyles, religions, nationality, and sexual orientations, which has without a doubt already begun to shape our culture. This exposure has resulted in the development of characteristics of tolerance, open-mindedness, and broad-mindedness. With further advances in technologies these characteristic traits can only be expected to increase. In conclusion, being social is essential to the survival of humans. For this reason it is important to understand the complex relationship between socialization and culture. Culture is a response to our social life, and in turn our culture maintain our social life. Socialization through school, religion, and home have shaped cultural beliefs and cultural beliefs maintain the way in which humans are socialized.
