Julie Davidson, RN, is a Operating Room Nurse who is currently assigned to the Dermatology Clinic. This proficiency report demonstrates examples of how Ms. Davidson uses her nursing knowledge and skill to provide nursing care meeting and/or exceeding the Qualification Standards in the four areas for a Nurse I and II. Currently assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing actions that enhances accessibility of care for veterans. She listens attentively to patients needs and resolves patient concerns accordingly. Her prompt action assist a patient reconsider his option of having his melanoma be evaluated by surgeons. • Performs on-call duties and coordinates after-hours care so that emergency cases are completed in a timely fashion with correct instrumentation, supplies, and equipment available. • Fulfills the primary role of pre-op Holding Area nurse with an average patient census of three to five patients. Efficiently communicate holistic patient care in the holding area decreasing percentage of cancellations in the surgical service. Verifies completeness of all required pre-op documentation and preparation. Adheres to patient safety goals including identification of patients and assists with surgical marking. • Ensures safe nursing care for the perioperative patient, including implementation and documentation of safe patient position, adapts care for special needs patients, performs routine nursing procedures including starting an IV and Foley catheterization, and assesses patient condition throughout the perioperative period. • Performs patient teaching on surgical topics including DVT prevention and importance of skin preparation.
