1960 Tom Monaghan launches the first Domino’s Pizza store in 1960 in Michigan, USA, although is it called DomiNick’s until 1965. His brother James sells his share in the venture after a year in return for a Volkswagen Beetle. 1967 The first franchise opens and by 1983 there are 1,000 stores, including the first outside the USA. 1985 The first UK store opens in Luton. 1991 The first Irish store opens in Dublin. 1993 Brothers, Gerry and Colin Halpern, buy the master franchise for Domino’s in the UK and Ireland, which by this time has 77 outlets. Today there are more than 9,350 Domino’s Pizza stores worldwide in more than 70 countries, employing over 175,000 team members and involving over 2,000 franchisees. Globally Domino’s Pizza delivers more than one million pizzas every day. Domino’s Pizza opened its first UK store in Luton in 1985 and in the Republic of Ireland the first store opened in 1991, in Dublin. In 2011, Domino’s Pizza UK & Ireland purchased a 75% stake in the master franchise for Domino’s Pizza Germany. There are currently two stores in Germany (as at July 25, 2011) with a plan to open 262 by the year 2019. There are currently 688 stores in the UK and the Republic of Ireland (as at 25 July, 2011). Of these, 543 stores are in England, 47 are in Scotland, 28 are in Wales, 18 are in Northern Ireland, 48 in the Republic of Ireland, one is in the Isle of Man and there is one mobile unit. In the UK and Ireland we are working towards our goal of opening 1,200 stores by 2021.

In 2010 Domino’s Pizza celebrated its 25th anniversary in the UK.
