Students would choose a path like yours as a path to medical school because of the liberty it would give them from worrying about a back-up plan should they not get accepted to med school. While taking the MCAT and completing pre-med courses is a totally realistic way of trying to get to med school, there's not much back to fall on should you not do well. This might make the student take up a major that is not as related to medicine like engineering which may deter them from the path of medicine because of the educational commitment it would take to do both. Having this option would allow the student to strive to be the best possible doctor they could be.

The first big hurdle is getting into medical school, whether this means getting a good score on the MCAT or gaining clinical experience. Dr. Grande told us, “Do something challenging or something that you don’t like. Get dirty.” Frankly, this scared me. The hard work paid off much to your delight. You just received your medical license, now what? Lets just step back and relive the years past. Four years of Undergrad followed by four more years at Med School. Some of you had liberal arts and humanities majors before joining Med School. There are others who tried different jobs before joining Med School which puts them in the mid or late thirties. A further five or more years to meet Residency and Fellowship requirements! However few can put up with the brutal academic and research workload you did. Congratulations on your hard-earned success.

She began discussing requirements for medical school: a minimum GPA of 3.4, decent MCAT scores, research experience, and a lot of volunteering hours. Within our homes, schools, and community, there are many different fields of medicine to accommodate for the accelerating demand for doctors and physicians. With so many fields and concentrations of medicine, different schools have emerge to keep up with the demand. Now, not only are there primary care physicians, but also fields such as pediatrics and physical therapy. Since entering college, I have always had an internal debate and frustration on what I wanted to do and who I wanted to become and if I really did want to pursue a career in healthcare or engineering. Just recently deciding to aspire to become a physical therapist, I became so lost in how I was to pursue my career and the steps needed to achieve it. I have always thought that one only needed to take the MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test) and a letter of recommendation along with required coursework was all that was needed to become a doctor. The first thing I learned was that I needed to have a baccalaureate degree to apply for medical school. Then, I will have to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) to get into medical school.
